Job summary

North Alabama Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Patient Care Assistant for night shift. Under RN supervision, you’ll monitor telemetry, observe patient conditions, and report changes to the nursing team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
• EMT, CNA or related credential preferred or completion of first semester nursing rotation.
• BLS certification within 60 days of hire; Telemetry certification within 1 year.
• Strong critical thinking and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Under RN supervision, performs telemetry monitoring.
• Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
• Identifies significant arrhythmias and signs of distress and intervenes.
• Reports abnormal findings to nursing staff.
• Tests equipment for proper working order and reports issues to supervisor.

Our Critical Care Unit is part of a dynamic, teaching hospital environment that prioritizes clinical excellence and continuous learning. As a Chest Pain Center-accredited and Primary Stroke Center, we provide advanced, evidence-based care to high-acuity patients. Our integrated Cardiac Rehabilitation Program supports recovery beyond the bedside, while ongoing critical care education and specialized classes empower staff to expand their knowledge, sharpen skills, and grow professionally within a collaborative, patient-focused team.

How You'll Contribute

• Under the supervision of an RN, performs telemetry monitoring.
• Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
• Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately. Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
• Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.

What We're Looking For

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma (or equivalent). Additional requirements include:
• Associate's degree Preferred
• EMT, EMT-P, CNA, SRNA, or CMA Preferred or completion of first semester clinical rotation in an accredited Nursing Degree Program (ADN or BSN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within 60 days of hire
• Completion of Cardiac Telemetry Certification within 1 year of hire; Evidence of successful completion of Telemetry/Dysrhythmia course
• Handle with Care preferred
• Requires Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment; rapid learning and navigation of multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
