Placements24 is seeking a Telecoms Field Service Technician to install, maintain and repair telecommunications equipment at customer sites in the Welkom region. You will handle fiber optic, DSL, and wireless systems with a focus on reliability and quality of service.

The role requires hands-on technical proficiency, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in diverse field environments. Regular travel within the service area is expected.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent telecommunications company operating in Welkom , Free State, is looking for a diligent and skilled Telecoms Field Service Technician to join their growing operational team. This role is essential for the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure directly at customer sites and various network points. You will be the frontline representative of our client, ensuring the quality and reliability of services delivered to our customers across the Welkom region. This is a hands-on position that requires technical proficiency, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in diverse field environments. Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including fiber optic cables, routers, modems, and customer premises equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to network connectivity, voice, and data services for residential and business customers.
• Perform routine maintenance and preventative checks on network infrastructure in the field.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repair requests in a timely and efficient manner.
• Ensure all installations and repairs meet company standards and quality benchmarks.
• Provide clear and concise technical explanations and support to customers regarding their services.
• Maintain accurate records of service calls, equipment inventory, and work performed using company-provided systems.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working on-site.
• Collaborate with the central technical support team to elevate complex issues when necessary.
• Represent the company professionally and courteously at all customer interactions.

Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• A relevant technical qualification or certification in Telecommunications or Electronics is highly advantageous.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Field Service Technician or in a similar hands-on telecommunications role.
• Proven experience with installation and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks, DSL, and wireless technologies.
• Strong understanding of basic electrical principles and safety procedures.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities.
• Good physical condition, capable of working in various weather conditions and performing tasks that may involve climbing or lifting.
• Valid driver's license is mandatory.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Reside within or be willing to relocate to the Welkom area.
