Job summary

Sunflower Electric Power Corporation in Great Bend, KS seeks a Telecommunications Technician Apprentice – Journey to install, test, inspect, calibrate and repair electronic equipment, diagnose telecom problems and perform preventive maintenance. You will learn in a field setting and expand experience across departments.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain an FCC General Radio Operator License within one year of employment.
• Two year post high school technical certification in an electronics program or related field, plus two years of related maintenance experience.
• EEI Technician Occupation Selection System (TECH) Test completion required.
• For Journey: four years focal electronic equipment installation and maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installing, testing, inspecting, calibrating and repairing electronic equipment.
• Diagnose telecommunications problems and perform corrective and preventive maintenance as required.
• Learn and apply maintenance procedures in a field environment.
• Collaborate with other departments to broaden experience in the utility industry.

Telecommunications Technician Apprentice - Journey

Sunflower Electric Power Corporation, a generation and transmission cooperative serving Central and Western Kansas, is hiring a Telecommunications Technician Apprentice - Journey at ourGreat Bend Station. We are seeking an individual who is interested in working in the field to maintaintelecommunications equipment at peak efficiency. The ideal candidate will be able to assist with installing, testing, inspecting, calibrating, and repairing electronic equipment, diagnosing telecommunications problems, and performing corrective and preventive maintenance as required.

We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests, available here:

EEI Practice Tests

Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

Note: EEI does not allow access to the actual tests. Testing sessions are held at various locations.
