Job summary

New York City Transit seeks a Telecommunications Specialist III (Data) to support major infrastructure and capital projects. The role blends technical field work with project coordination across telecommunications, data networks, and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities include site surveys, field support to the Construction Manager, budgets, RFP coordination, and design reviews. A BS in Electrical Engineering or Data Telecommunications is required along with 5+ years of supervisory project

Qualifications

  • Requires BS in Electrical Engineering, Data Telecommunications, or related degree.
  • Minimum five years supervising employees on project management, planning, coordinating, or expediting.
  • Experience with field operations, site surveys, and report preparation.

  • Schedule and lead site surveys of communication rooms, subway stations, and transit infrastructure including General Orders.
  • Provide field support to the Construction Manager during construction.
  • Assist in preparing Engineering Force Accounts and budgets for all project phases.
  • Support and coordinate RFP and Bid packaging for Systems & Security contracts.
  • Attend design and construction review meetings on behalf of project teams.
  • Support contract design activities.
  • Prepare daily reports, punch-lists, and conduct pre- and final inspections with Contractors.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by the Construction Manager or Project Chief.

Telecommunications Specialist III (Data)

We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Specialist III (Data) to support major infrastructure and capital projects for a leading transportation organization. This role will provide technical field support and project coordination for telecommunications, data communication systems, and related infrastructure initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of communication networks, project coordination, and field operations, with the ability to support engineering teams, construction activities, and system implementation efforts. This position requires a balance of technical field work and administrative responsibilities, including site surveys, project documentation, inspections, reporting, and coordination with contractors and internal teams.

Position Details
  • Contract Duration: 52 weeks
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday; nights and weekends as required
  • Hours: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (lunch hour unpaid)
  • Work Location: Brooklyn, NY 11201, with field locations as required
  • Work Environment: 50% Office / 50% Field
  • Right-of-Way Access Required: Yes
Description of Work
  • With minimum supervision, the consultant will:
  • a. Schedule and lead site surveys of communication rooms, subway stations, and transit infrastructure including General Orders.
  • b. Provide field support to the Construction Manager office during construction.
  • c. Assist in preparing Engineering Force Accounts and budgets for all the phases of the projects.
  • d. Support and coordinate the Request for Proposal and Bid packaging process for Systems & Security contracts.
  • e. Attend design and construction review meetings on behalf of the project teams.
  • f. Support contract design activities.
  • g. Prepare daily reports, punch-list, conduct pre-and final inspections with Contractors and trade group.
  • h. Perform other assignments as directed by Construction Manager or Project Chief
Other Job Requirements
  • a. One-day NYC Transit Track Safety Training Course (provided by NYCT) is required prior to participating in work on or near the wayside.
  • b. The consultant shall provide safety shoes, at no cost to NYCT, which meets NYCT guidelines and specifications, when participating in any activities located on the track or wayside.
  • c. OSHA-30-hour certification required before participating in work on or near the wayside.
Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Data Telecommunications, or related computer degree.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of five years of full-time satisfactory experience supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, engineering, architectural or landscape architectural projects.
Special Skills Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Communication and Networking Knowledge.
  • Excellent Skills with MS Word, Access and Excel.
  • Must communicate clearly.
  • Must possess the ability to organize project information efficiently and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of capital project construction procedures preferred but not required.
