Job summary

Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) in Georgia seeks a Telecommunications Specialist to support planning, installation, and operation of telecommunications, audiovisual, and multimedia systems for large events and trainings.

Responsibilities

Duties

Serving as a Telecommunications Specialist GS-0391-12 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Directors Office (DO), Office of Public Affairs (DO/OPA), Media Support Branch (DO/OPA/MSB).

The primary purpose of this position is to support the planning, acquisition, testing, integration, installation, utilization, and modification of telecommunications systems, facilities, services, and procedures.

Typical Duties Include

• Providing technical support for audiovisual, video teleconferencing, telecommunications, or multimedia systems used to support meetings, conferences, graduations, ceremonies, training events, or other large-scale events;
• Operating, troubleshooting, testing, maintaining, or configuring equipment such as projectors, monitors, audio systems, microphones, assisted listening systems, control panels, video teleconferencing equipment, presentation systems, or customized audiovisual systems;
• Coordinating event production requirements with customers, management officials, technical staff, vendors, contractors, facilities personnel, or other stakeholders to ensure events are properly scheduled, staffed, tested, and supported;
• Reviewing, preparing, or troubleshooting presentation files, audio/video materials, graphics, or other multimedia products to ensure accuracy, completeness, formatting, synchronization, and operational readiness;
• Supporting the planning, maintenance, upgrade, or integration of audiovisual, video teleconferencing, telecommunications, or network-connected systems;
• Developing or applying standard operating procedures, schedules, checklists, records, or technical documentation for the use, operation, maintenance, or security of telecommunications, audiovisual, or multimedia systems;
• Assisting with budget, procurement, warranty, maintenance contract, property accountability, or inventory activities related to telecommunications, audiovisual, information technology, or multimedia equipment; and
• Identifying technical issues, operational risks, resource needs, or system improvement opportunities and recommending solutions to management.

Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study – electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled.

Other Education

Communications/electronics or automatic data processing training in technical institutes or business schools above the high school level or in Armed Forces schools that included advanced instruction in addition to basic courses, may be substituted for general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology.

In addition to the IOR above you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service providing technical and operational support for audiovisual, video teleconferencing, telecommunications, and multimedia systems used for meetings, conferences, ceremonies, training events, or similar activities. My experience includes operating, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, or configuring A/V and VTC equipment; coordinating technical event requirements with customers, leadership, technical staff, contractors, or vendors; supporting event production planning and execution; developing or applying procedures, schedules, records, or technical documentation; assisting with system maintenance, upgrades, procurement, inventory, or budget requirements; and recommending technical solutions to improve system reliability, operational readiness, cost effectiveness, or user productivity.

Time-in-grade

Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
