WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Alaska Statewide 911 & Interoperability Coordinator is the lead for emergency communications and interoperability across Alaska. This position shapes the technological environment for 911 services, ensures seamless communication among public safety agencies, and advances statewide interoperability initiatives. The Coordinator provides technical consulting, maintains the State 911 Plan and PSAP inventory, supports Next Generation 911 (NG911) implementation, and integrates 911 and interoperability services into state and local emergency response plans.

OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:

The position supports many of the state and local 9-1-1 dispatch centers’ radio equipment enabling mission critical communications to first responders as they answer calls for help. Your work will support multiple teams working to ensure reliable emergency communications services through a system comprised of over 150 communication sites enabling emergency and day-to-day services to state, local, Department of Defense and federal agencies as they carry out their missions to the public. Those sites often include microwave communications, high availability network routers, primary and emergency power, shelters and towers all supporting land mobile radio and other customer equipment and services. You will have the opportunity to improve upon our system to increase operational efficiency, capability and reliability. The position is charged to provide vital support services to our teams as we seek innovations and initiatives to advance the mission of the customers and, to implement processes and programs to achieve efficiencies and cost savings.

The ideal individual brings practical knowledge of radio systems, 911 operations, and broadband technologies; builds strong, collaborative relationships with local, state, tribal, and federal partners; and coordinates effectively to support shared communications goals. This position requires someone who can manage projects and grant-funded initiatives, ensuring compliance and timely progress, while also identifying communications risks and supporting continuity and preparedness for emergencies and major incidents statewide.

Three years of administrative, technical, or professional experience which demonstrates a good knowledge of the functional and operational requirements and capabilities in one or more types of telecommunications fields such as telephone systems engineering, broadcasting, satellite systems, telecommunications regulations, data communications, or telecommunications management, and four years of education in electronic engineering, physics, industrial engineering, communications, public utilities or a closely related field above the high school level.

Additional qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for the required education.
