Job summary

Duke Energy offers a Telecommunications Internship for current college students, providing hands-on experience in Telecom Delivery and support. Ideal candidates are pursuing IT or Engineering degrees with a GPA of 2.75+ and must not graduate before August 2027; hybrid work requires commuting to Duke Energy facilities

Internship Overview

The Duke Energy Telecommunications Internship position designed for currently enrolled college students looking to bring their passion, skills, knowledge, and innovative mindset to the energy sector. Telecom Interns will gain on-the-job experience and exposure to areas such as Telecom Delivery and support. Ideal candidates should be highly motivated and have the curiosity to take on new complex challenges while contributing directly to team goals along with honing their own skills for future technical and professional endeavors. Throughout the summer internship, students will learn more about the Enterprise Technology and Security department, as well as the boarder company’s business operations, by attending various site visits, information sessions and networking events with senior leadership and peers.

Role / Responsibilities

• Selected candidate(s) will gain exposure to cellular engineering and support
• Hands‑on experience to learn more about modem communications technology and carrier service activations and deactivations.
• Assist with basic support and troubleshooting
• Assist team with special projects

Basic / Required Qualifications

• Enrolled in a master’s or bachelor’s IT or Engineering related degree program such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Software Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering
• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Must not graduate before August 2027

Desired Qualifications

• Previous internship experience
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Demonstrates strong troubleshooting & problem‑solving skills
• Experience with Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating Systems and MS Office
• Familiarity with telecommunication systems, IT, cellular networks, data networks and electrical engineering concepts and practices

Working Conditions

Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility. Housing stipend available when applicable Many of our opportunities require a 40‑hour work week. Internship summer session length is 10‑12 weeks
