Oversees the Communications Center, helps other staff members with administrative tasks, answers calls on all non-emergency and emergency phones, and handles all dispatch tasks required by the police, fire, and emergency medical services. The supervisor is also in charge of the Communications Center's daily maintenance and housekeeping.

Manages staff by prioritizing work, evaluating performance, training, enforcing policies, ensuring a safe work environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions.
Answers emergency and non-emergency calls, prioritizing calls, extracting critical information, forwarding to relevant persons, and other related tasks.
Conducts research using local, state, and national crime databases, sharing information with relevant individuals.
Inputs warrant, citation, ticket, and caller data into a database.
Creates, implements, and oversees compliance with operating rules and procedures.
Monitors and responds to police radio traffic, notifying units, supervisors, and other agencies of officer needs and assigning officers to emergencies.
May monitor ACJIS system to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
Participates in the interviewing, selecting and training of employees
Work any post, assignment, or shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support a 24/7 operation, and adjust schedules as needed to meet operational requirements.
Works mandatory overtime as required

Alert fire and police agencies in Kirby, San Antonio, Converse, and nearby areas regarding teletypes related to lost or endangered individuals, severe weather, fire hazards, or safety issues.
Perform all dispatch functions pertaining to Fire, Police, and EMS.
Perform administrative and clerical support to city personnel
Use interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisor, and the public for exchanging and receiving information.
Appear in court and testify under oath when required.
Using computers and related software applications
Using modern office equipment
Operating two-way radio.

Answer all emergency and non-emergency phones and provide assistance needed.
Walking is necessary for communication with other departments, gathering information, and attending meetings in different buildings. Walking indoor buildings conditions are concrete or tile.
Sitting for prolonged periods of time while being restricted to immediate dispatch radio area.
Reaching/Handling/Fine Dexterity: Reaching and handling required for telephone, radio, file cabinet and computers. Required frequently to use computer keyboard.
Vision: Required to perform all tasks associated with this job.
Pushing/Pulling: Occasionally pushing and pulling of the file cabinet drawers requiring 5-15 lbs. of pressure to open and close.
Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Telecommunicator, preferably with the Kirby Police Department.
Must possess a TCOLE Intermediate Certification or be able to obtain an Intermediate Certification within 1 year.
Current on all TCOLE mandated training.
Current on all TCIC/NCIC and TLETS mandated training.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required).
