Job Summary

The University cabling team provides 24/7/365 support to thenetworks across the university campus, hospitals, and clinics. The Cable Technician 1 is responsible for the operation andmaintenance of the University structured cable plant.Performs patching, installation, testing, cable management, anddocumentation. When needed, works with the fiber team.Maintains a tidy work environment. Provides hands-on help andsupport to university and vendor cable technicians.Coordinates with customers to identify work scope, materials, andarrange access. Responsible for updates to the work ticketingsystems and labor tracking tools. Provides verbal and writtenstatus reports to the copper supervisor and cable plantmanagement. Responds to resolve incidents and covers for thecopper supervisor as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

Prefer some experience working with copper (Cat 5, Cat 6, and Cat6A) cable; Able to lift 80 pounds, experience installing andtesting copper phone and network cables; effective human relationsand customer communication skills; aptitude and willingness tolearn copper and fiber skills; demonstrates pride in workmanship.Must be able to distinguish copper and fiber jacket colordifferences, punctual and consistently work hard. Must be able tolearn the skills of a Cable and Fiber Technician. Take direction, be able to work independently, and maintain aprofessional appearance and dress.
