Job Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Telecommunications Manager (TCM). Responsible for and directly supervises the operation of a Telecommunications Center (TCC). Ensures the TCC complies with established regulations, policies, and procedures. Performs all tasks/duties not directly related to radio operation yet is responsible for these duties when necessary. Responds to emergencies by being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Ensures the TCC complies with established regulations, policies, and procedures. Performs all tasks/duties not directly related to radio operation yet is responsible for these duties when necessary. Monitors and supervises the overall operations of a Telecommunications Center (TCC). Responsible for personnel and compliance with established rules, regulations, and procedures. Coordinates operational functions with District Captains, Department of Transportation (DOT), Emergency Preparedness Division (EPD), State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and other law enforcement agencies. Supervises Telecommunications Operators (TCOs) in a TCC.
Operates and monitors radios and other communications equipment. Provides information and support to field personnel, other law enforcement agencies, and emergency services. Responds to requests for assistance and information from the general public. Diagnoses/troubleshoots electronic equipment on a component and system level to ensure its accuracy and reliability by analyzing any problems with telecommunications equipment.
Develops work schedules, trains subordinates in proper operation procedures, and ensures efficiency and uniformity. Maintain personnel records and approve requests for leave. Evaluates subordinate's work performance. Advises subordinates of the position's requirements and expectations and provides timely feedback on performance.
Maintain computerized documentation (CAD) of all radio transmissions, collision call-in reports, NCIC terminal reports, and SLED/CJIS/NCIC transactions. CAD is the primary means utilized for documentation of all information received.
Performs Other Duties As Required.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements
A high school diploma and journey-level work experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic communications equipment, in telecommunications or computer operations. An associate degree in a technical communications discipline may be substituted for the required experience.
Agency Minimum Requirements
Must have at least six (6) months experience as a SCDPS ATCS. Up to date on all certifications.
Possess a thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies governing the operation of the public safety telecommunications center.
Must be able to plan, organize, and set priorities to complete multiple responsibilities.
Possess the skills necessary to manage and supervise employees, often dealing with complex and difficult situations.
Demonstrate sound judgment and a calm attitude in crisis or emergencies.
Full Function Certified in SLED/CJIS and FBI/NCIC computer system or obtain this certification within six (6) months of selection.
Works independently using personal judgement and discretion to make responsible decisions about office management, under the guidance of the Telecommunications Manager (TCM) and Telecommunications Executive Officer (XO).
Additional Comments
The TCS position is an essential position. Responsible for complete operations of a TCC, as well as work in a position on the radio and/or NCIC terminal. On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to emergencies. Must be able to work rotating twelve (12) hour shifts as needed, which includes days, nights, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours on short notice.
