Job summary

City of Cedarburg (WI) seeks a part-time Youth Services Assistant to support the Head of Youth Services at the Cedarburg Public Library. You will provide welcoming service to children and teens aged 11–18, plan and conduct engaging programs, and assist with reader's advisory and library outreach.

The role is 19 hours per week, including one evening shift and rotating weekends. There are no benefits for part-time staff; wage increases are planned for January 2027, and strong customer service and

Qualifications

• Some college coursework in library science, education, youth development, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with the public, particularly children and teens, in a customer service, educational, recreational, or library setting is preferred.
• Knowledge of current library principles, materials, practices, and customer service.
• Ability to develop, plan, promote, and conduct engaging, age-appropriate programs for youth, particularly teens ages 11-18.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond effectively to patron needs, establish positive relationships with youth, and interact professionally with diverse ages and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a positive, welcoming environment for library users and collaborate with Youth Services staff.
• Develop relationships with children and teens to promote reading, learning, and exploration.
• Plan, promote, and conduct age-appropriate programs for youth 11-18 and identify emerging interests.
• Independently lead programs and collaborate on department-wide initiatives.
• Provide reader's advisory services and maintain knowledge of youth literature and formats.
