Job description

We are seeking an energetic and creative librarian to lead services for teens and young adults. Based in our dedicated Teen Room, this role focuses on creating a welcoming space, developing collections, delivering innovative programming, and fostering strong partnerships with schools and the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and lead teen programs, including reading initiatives, crafts, gaming, coding, and summer reading
• Coordinate special events, guest presenters, and ongoing programs (e.g., Battle of the Books, school break activities)
• Conduct outreach to schools and represent the library at community events
• Build and maintain partnerships with schools and community organizations
• Recruit, train, and supervise teen volunteers; manage schedules and track hours
• Co‑manage teen internship program, including selection, training, and scheduling
• Select, evaluate, and maintain a diverse young adult collection (print, AV, and digital)
• Stay current with YA literature and trends
• Assist teens in discovering and accessing materials
• Provide reference, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance
• Collaborate with library organizations and attend professional meetings
• Stay current with industry and technology trends

Qualifications

The position requires availability for evenings and rotating weekends and involves an active, public‑facing role within a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong passion for working with teens and young adults, along with knowledge of young adult literature and current trends. They possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to create inclusive and engaging environments. Experience in programming, outreach, or library services is preferred but we will consider a candidate graduating this year.

Master’s Degree in Library Science (ALA accredited) with a focus on youth services, and a valid New York State Public Librarian Certification required. Appointment is contingent upon meeting Westchester County Civil Service requirements, including eligibility for and successful participation in the Children’s Librarian I examination.

Compensation: $58,000 to $63,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
