Job summary

After School Matters seeks licensed barbers or cosmetologists to develop and lead programs for teens at the Lutz Center, beginning Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. Instructors teach 15–30 teens (typical 15:1) aged 14–19, with content ranging from hair cutting to makeup artistry and nails.

Programs run ~7.5 hours weekly, 3 days weekly, with after-school hours including 60–90 instructional hours per 10-week term; additional planning and recruitment hours apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant content area is preferred; high school diploma or GED required.
• Experience working in a field relevant to the content area is required.
• Familiarity with Chicago neighborhoods is required.
• Experience teaching teenagers is highly preferred.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, organize, and supervise interactive teen-led activities in a safe, collaborative setting.
• Develop and implement field trips, master classes, events, and guest visits to enhance instruction.
• Attend planning and program sessions and participate in professional development.
• Lead recruitment, interviewing, and selection of teen participants.
• Manage attendance, enrollment, surveys, and student records in Cityspan.
