Job summary

Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. seeks an experienced Small Commercial Lines Technology Underwriter in Massachusetts/New York. This full-time, exempt role offers hybrid or fully remote work options and a chance to underwrite technology-focused accounts with cross-functional collaboration.

You will assess technology risk, price and quote policies, and manage a portfolio to meet profitability and growth targets while staying aligned with appetite and capacity guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3–7+ years in standard commercial lines underwriting; accounts $100K+ preferred.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, pricing methodology, and risk assessment.
• Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to consult effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Negotiation and sound judgment; ability to make informed business decisions.
• Adaptability to learn quickly and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in use of underwriting systems/tools.

Responsibilities

• Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Technology accounts.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders via phone, email, Teams, and in person.
• Apply underwriting concepts including risk selection, coverage implications, and loss analysis.
• Follow guidelines to ensure compliance and profitability and price accordingly.
• Develop and manage portfolio to achieve premium, profitability, retention, and mix goals.
• Collaborate with claims, risk solutions, and operations to showcase service and technical expertise.
