Job summary

U.S. News & World Report in the Washington, DC area seeks a Senior Software Developer to build data-driven web applications at scale. You will work on the front-end with React and back-end with Python, applying AI-first approaches to improve workflows.

Join a collaborative team, mentor colleagues, partner with product managers and designers, and own features end to end—from design through testing. A minimum of three years of full-stack experience and a CS degree are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of related or similar full stack experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development, skills, agents, automations.
  • Modern JavaScript frameworks, such as React.
  • Web styling with CSS preprocessors or CSS-in-JS.
  • Modern JavaScript patterns and ES6.
  • Server-side technologies, such as Python, Java, or NodeJS.
  • Databases, such as PostgreSQL.
  • Unix-based operating systems, such as Linux or Mac OS X, with shells/CLI.
  • Version control, such as Git.

U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. We are looking for an enthusiastic Full Stack Senior Software Developer with an interest in building dynamic, data-driven products. Developers typically see applications through from beginning to end, working directly with project owners to create, implement, upgrade, optimize, and test features and projects.

As a senior software developer, you will be:

A key contributor for a team of developers working with one of our verticals

Collaborate with product managers, designers, mentor developers

Employ an AI-first approach to day-to-day investigation & development

Develop and maintain clean, efficient, and well-documented code

Serve as a technical role model

Senior team members are responsible for promoting the overall quality of our team and technology, beyond just focusing on their own individual contributions.

Position Requirements
You should definitely have:
  • Minimum three years of related or similar full stack experience

  • Modern JavaScript frameworks, such as React

  • Version control, such as Git

  • CICD pipelines such as Jenkins
  • Cloud environments such as AWS
  • Data ingestion/transformation
  • Developed product-facing AI features
