Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance - Boston is seeking a Technology Quality Engineer to join our Information Technology Team. You will test primary Policy and related applications, design and maintain automated tests, and integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines while collaborating with onsite and offshore teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, problem-solving, and ensuring data quality across complex systems in a multicultural environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Technology Quality Engineering experience.
  • Experience in Test Automation tools and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of at least one programming language.
  • Experience in QE roles supporting complex systems development or packaged software implementation efforts.
  • Hands-on style with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of the end-to-end software development lifecycle and E2E testing.
  • Highly organized with ability to prioritize multiple deliverables.
  • Experience in Agile or waterfall projects.
  • Team collaboration within QE, Technology, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Play a hands-on role in testing primary applications, including integrations.
  • Design, write, and maintain automated test scripts.
  • Run automated test cases and analyze results to meet requirements.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with offshore and onsite teammates on long-term automation plans.
  • Participate in test planning, execution, and defect management.
  • Collaborate with engineers and offshore partners on data quality and integrity.
  • Engage business users during UAT to validate feedback.
  • Develop process standards to prevent defects and improve quality.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout SDLC.
  • Troubleshoot with development teams for timely issue resolution.
  • Measure test effectiveness and efficiency using quality metrics.

Job Opportunity

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Technology Quality Engineer to join our Boston-based Information Technology Team. BHSI provides commercial property, casualty, healthcare professional liability, surety, executive, and professional lines insurance to global customers. We are creating and supporting multiple complex applications within BHSI and are seeking candidates with Enterprise Application technology experience. An ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience testing preferably in commercial P&C insurance. Candidates should be very interested in solving hard problems and providing testing solutions, enjoy a multicultural environment, and bring creative energy to their work. The Quality Engineering role is accountable for engaging business users and Technology team members throughout the lifecycle of projects and supporting releases to production. In this role, you will actively engage and work with onsite and offshore consulting partners in executing our automation engineering activities.



Duties & Responsibilities


  • Play a hands-on role in testing of all primary Policy and supplementary applications, including critical third-party integrations such as Hyland OnBase Workflow.

  • Design, write, and maintain automated test scripts.

  • Run automated test cases and analyze the results to ensure the application meets the requirements.

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.

  • Collaborate with offshore and onsite teammates to develop and execute effective long-term automation test plans and regression suites.

  • Participate in the overall test planning & execution of Policy team testing objectives (test planning, design, execution, defect management, and reporting).

  • Collaborate with onsite engineers and offshore testing partners to develop and execute test scenarios to determine data quality and integrity.

  • Engage directly with business users during User Acceptance Testing to facilitate validation and troubleshoot user feedback.

  • Collaborate with peers and management to develop process standards and/or enhancements to prevent the recurrence of defects/bugs.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Participate in troubleshooting sessions with development teams for timely turnaround of critical issues.

  • Understanding quality metrics and implementing measurements to determine test effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Adhering to best practices in analysis & documentation.



Qualifications, Skills And Experience


  • Minimum of 5 years of Technology Quality Engineering experience or experience in a similar field.

  • Experience in Test Automation tools and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong knowledge of at least one programming language.

  • Knowledge of best practices in test automation framework.

  • Experience in QE roles supporting complex systems development or packaged software implementation efforts.

  • Hands‑on style with strong problem‑solving abilities and a keen attention to detail. Strong conceptual thinking skills, creativity, and flexibility.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse executives, subject matter experts, and vendor resources.

  • A strong understanding of the E2E software development process and system development lifecycle, including E2E testing.

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize and track multiple deliverables.

  • Experience working in Agile or waterfall projects.

  • Team collaboration: within QE, the broader Technology team, and internal business stakeholders.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge in creating and maintaining an automated test suite, including UI and API, is a plus.

  • Working experience of Automation Tools, such as Katalon, Cypress, Selenium, NeoLoad, etc

  • Some business background in Commercial P&C Insurance Underwriting or Claims functions is an advantage.

  • Prior experience with the Duck Creek Platform or equivalent P&C system is an advantage.

  • ISO expertise is a plus.

  • Knowledge of defect management tools such as Jira, DevOps, Quality Center, or any other defect tool.

The base salary range for this position in Boston is $90,000 to $115,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
