Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Technology Commercialization Manager to drive licensing and transfer of APL IP. You will collaborate with innovators and leadership to market technologies to industry and non-governmental organizations, negotiating terms and guiding high-impact deals.

You will manage cradle-to-grave IP portfolios, analyze market and patent landscapes, and engage with industry and investors to advance opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field with at least 10 years of industry or technical experience.
  • 5+ years of direct experience in technology licensing and IP.
  • Strong leadership, communication, research/analytical, organizational, creative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact with APL innovators, leadership, and industry contacts.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret and ultimately Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, market, and license APL intellectual property to industry and non-governmental organizations.
  • Negotiate license agreements to close high-impact deals.
  • Support creation of start-up companies licensing APL IP.
  • Provide cradle-to-grave IP portfolio management for technologies developed by APL.
  • Perform tailored research on patenting trends, innovation viability, technology landscapes, and transfer best practices.
  • Engage with industry and the investment community to promote opportunities and staff engagement with the commercialization process.
  • Coordinate with patent counsel to secure and maintain IP protection.
  • Manage portfolio to align with APL strategic objectives.
