Job summary

Rowan-College-At-Burlington-County STEM Technology Lab & Server Technician provides dedicated technical support for Engineering Technology, Engineering, and Computing laboratories, including an on‑premises cybersecurity lab with servers, firewalls, switches, etc.

The role focuses on operational readiness and uptime of the division's lab infrastructure to keep teaching labs available for instruction at all times.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/CSE or related STEM field.
• Minimum of one year of experience in systems administration or hands-on lab technical support.
• CompTIA Network+, Server+, or Security+ certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up, and maintain Physics, Engineering/ET, and Cybersecurity labs for all scheduled sessions
• Manage and maintain the Cybersecurity server lab environment, including virtual machines and network configurations
• Provide hardware and software support for computing labs used by ET and Engineering programs
• Troubleshoot technical issues during lab sessions to minimize instructional downtime
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies, equipment, and consumables
• Supervise and train student lab workers
• Ensure compliance with lab safety protocols and equipment maintenance schedules
• Assist faculty with integrating technology into lab curriculum

Job description

The STEM Technology Lab & Server Technician provides dedicated technical support for the Engineering Technology (ET), Engineering, and Computing laboratories, including an on-premises cybersecurity lab with servers, firewalls, switches, etc., with primary responsibility for the operational readiness and technical uptime of the division's lab infrastructure. The role replaces intermittent, faculty-reliant oversight with consistent, specialized, year-round coverage that keeps teaching labs, servers, and scientific equipment ready for instruction at all times.

• Prepare, set up, and maintain Physics, Engineering/ET, and Cybersecurity labs for all scheduled sessions
• Manage and maintain the Cybersecurity server lab environment, including virtual machines and network configurations
• Provide hardware and software support for computing labs used by ET and Engineering programs

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related STEM field

Experience Required:

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in systems administration or hands-on laboratory technical support

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

• CompTIA Network+, Server+, or Security+ certification preferred
• Experience with virtual machine environments, server maintenance, and network configuration
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for faculty and student interaction
• Knowledge of lab safety protocols and best practices

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
