Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science or related field preferred.
  • BS in Chemistry or Material Science with 3 years’ experience, or MS with 1 year.
  • Experience with polymer science, polymerization and polymer characterization preferred.

  • Travels to visit and consult with customers when needed.
  • Observes safety and environmental guidelines in handling materials.

Job description

Franklin International, a leading manufacturer of adhesives, coatings, and sealants is currently seeking a Technology Development Chemist. This position is responsible for supporting the lab’s efforts to develop new products and technologies as well as to improve current adhesive technologies by performing a variety of basic chemist and laboratory support job duties.

Fundamental Job Tasks

The primary responsibilities of the incumbent to this position will be to actively investigate new technologies aimed at developing new products that would meet Franklin’s market demand as well as would create new market opportunities. Typical tasks in this position will include, but are not limited to, the following-

  • Designs and synthesizes new and known polymers;
  • Evaluates various new and known polymers using current test methods;
  • Develops new test methods, when necessary, that best represent the intended application;
  • Formulates polymer using existing formulation techniques or by developing new formulation strategies;
  • Performs testing and collects data on adhesive formulae and polymers;
  • Analyzes data and decides course of action;
  • Evaluates new additives and raw materials to develop new products or to improve existing products;
  • Develops new processes for known polymer manufacturing to improve efficiency;
  • Manufactures polymers in pilot scale;
  • Contributes in significant problem-solving initiatives;
  • Leads mid-level problem resolution;
  • Works closely with a team or group;
  • Provides verbal or written updates to supervisor and other team members on regular basis;
  • Advises on technical points to supervisor as well as other team members;
  • Plans and prioritizes a logical sequence of testing, product formulation and lab tasks, based on information from supervisors. Revises plans as needed for change and customer requirements;
  • Responsible for follow-up on assigned projects;
  • Travels to visit and consult with customers, if needed;
  • Observe safety and environmental guidelines while handling products, raw materials and wastes.
Knowledge and Skills

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, or related field preferred; BS Chemistry or Material Science with 3 years’ experience, or MS Chemistry with 1 year experience. Experience with polymer science, polymerization, and polymer characterization preferred.
