Job summary

In-Q-Tel offers a 12-week summer fellowship with the Technical Architect team. This internship focuses on identifying and evaluating technologies for intelligence and defense partners, spanning cyber, AI, unmanned systems, sensors, microelectronics, space tech, biology, quantum, and more.

Hybrid work (office & teleworking) in the US-VA McLean area with a strong emphasis on technical vetting, due diligence, and collaboration with portfolio companies.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate student in an engineering or science discipline.
• Strong writing and proposal writing experience are preferred.
• Ability to present complex technology to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Overview

This is a 12-week summer fellowship (internship) with the Technical Architect team. This team is responsible for identifying and executing investments on behalf of our partners in the Intelligence & Defense communities in wide variety of technology areas, including cyber, AI, unmanned systems, sensors and subsystems, communications, microelectronics, space technologies, biology, quantum, and more. This intern will have an opportunity to support the In-Q-Tel in delivering mission impact to our partners in the Intelligence Community and supporting the National Security mission.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the competitive landscapein a giventechnical field and meets with companies that offer the best technologies.

Anticipated Projects

• Lead or contribute to a market survey in a key technology area such as frontier models, Physical AI, collaborative autonomy, space technology, advanced manufacturing, wireless communications, microelectronics, energy storage, offensive cyber, or more.
• Engage with IQT mission teams to understand mission needs from Intelligence and Defense Community Partners and survey commercial technologies to identify potential solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions with startup companies and support the technical vetting and due diligence process for potential investments.
• Host or support demos of portfolio or pipeline company technologies

Qualifications

• Due to contractual reasons, U.S. Citizenship is required
• Commitment to continued understanding of new technologies and their strategic advantages.
• Interest in entrepreneurship and general awareness of technology trends in venture-backed startup companies.
• Candidate for a graduate degree, in an engineering or science discipline such as electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, chemistry, or physics.
• Must be comfortable presenting complex technology subjects to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Prior work experience at a startup, government, or industry preferred.
• Must be a strong writer. Experience in both technical writing and proposal writing is preferred.
