Job summary

IQT invites you to a 12-week summer fellowship on the Technical Architect team in McLean, VA. This internship offers exposure across cyber, AI, unmanned systems, sensors, microelectronics, and more, delivering mission impact through hands-on investigations.

As part of the program, you’ll support technical assessments, reports, and due diligence while collaborating with IQT partners and portfolio companies. This role requires U.S. citizenship and a strong writing ability.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship is required due to contractual reasons.
• Interest in entrepreneurship and awareness of technology trends in venture-backed startups.
• Pursuing a graduate degree in engineering or science (e.g., electrical engineering, CS, mechanical, aerospace, materials, chemistry, or physics).
• Must be comfortable presenting complex technology to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Prior work experience at a startup, government, or industry is preferred.
• Strong writer with experience in technical writing and proposal writing.

Overview

This is a 12-week summer fellowship (internship) with the Technical Architect team. This team is responsible for identifying and executing investments on behalf of our partners in the Intelligence & Defense communities in wide variety of technology areas, including cyber, AI, unmanned systems, sensors and subsystems, communications, microelectronics, space technologies, biology, quantum, and more. This intern will have an opportunity to support the In-Q-Tel in delivering mission impact to our partners in the Intelligence Community and supporting the National Security mission.

Responsibilities

Anticipated Projects

• Lead or contribute to a market survey in a key technology area such as frontier models, Physical AI, collaborative autonomy, space technology, advanced manufacturing, wireless communications, microelectronics, energy storage, offensive cyber, or more.
• Engage with IQT mission teams to understand mission needs from Intelligence and Defense Community Partners and survey commercial technologies to identify potential solutions.
• Participate in technical discussions with startup companies and support the technical vetting and due diligence process for potential investments.
• Host or support demos of portfolio or pipeline company technologies

Qualifications

• Due to contractual reasons, U.S. Citizenship is required
• Commitment to continued understanding of new technologies and their strategic advantages.
• Interest in entrepreneurship and general awareness of technology trends in venture-backed startup companies.
• Candidate for a graduate degree, in an engineering or science discipline such as electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, chemistry, or physics.
• Must be comfortable presenting complex technology subjects to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Prior work experience at a startup, government, or industry preferred.
• Must be a strong writer. Experience in both technical writing and proposal writing is preferred.
