Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform and report defined laboratory procedures across assigned shifts, with overtime and callbacks as needed.

Ideal candidates hold a MLS/MT degree from an accredited program and national certification (ASCP or equivalent). The role emphasizes accurate specimen handling, quality control, and ongoing learning within a hospital lab environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in MLS or MT from an accredited institution.
• National certification (ASCP or equivalent) compliant with state and federal regulations.
• Basic computer literacy (as listed).

Responsibilities

• Receives, identifies, organizes, and prioritizes specimens to ensure accurate and timely test processing.
• Performs and reports laboratory procedures.
• Performs quality control, proficiency testing, routine instrument maintenance and inventory control.
• Evaluates positive patient identification to reduce errors.
• Assesses, evaluates and draws appropriate conclusions.
• Supports lifelong learning.
• Completes assigned goals.
• Provides instruction for personnel and medical technology students, as required.

Utilizes laboratory skills to perform and report results of clearly defined laboratory procedures assuring optimal patient outcomes. Responsible for assigned shifts and subject to overtime and call back as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

• Performs and reports requested laboratory procedures.
• Performs quality control, proficiency testing, routine instrument maintenance and inventory control.
• Evaluates positive patient identification to reduce analytical and post-analytical error and/or adverse patient outcomes.
• Assesses, evaluates and draws appropriate conclusions.
• Supports lifelong learning.
• Completes assigned goals.
• Provides instruction for personnel and medical technology students, as required.

Education
