Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY is seeking a Patient Care Technician to perform clinical and clerical duties in a clinic/physician office setting with night shifts (11 PM–7:30 AM). You will record vitals in EMR, perform EKGs and venipunctures, assist physicians, process specimens, and ensure accurate results and patient safety.

Requirements include a PCT training certificate or nursing assistant background, BLS, English proficiency, and ability to read/write.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Certificate of successfully completing a Patient Care Technician training program with competency-based orientation and Basic Life Support. Training must include phlebotomy and 12 Lead ECG required
• Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing. Emergency Department positions preferred EMS training or medical corpsman experience.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) training required
• OHS Annual Assessment

Responsibilities

• Record patients vitals in EMR, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, and measurements as needed
• Accurac y of results.
• Perform EKGs, ABIs, venipunctures
• Accuracy of results
• Prepare blood drawings & specimens for testing
• Accuracy of results
• Hook up and disconnect patients from Holter and event monitors
• Low rate of patient error
• Assist physicians with annual physicals, including eye and hearing exams
• Accuracy of results
• Run automated urine testing, rapid strep testing, hematocrit, hCG, hemoglobin and INR testing
• Accuracy of results
• Maintain log book containing abnormal result findings
• Ensure that medications are not expired or opened. Maintain and order medical supplies
• Compliant with health care regulations
• Sterilize instruments and equipment using autoclave; prepare patients, exam and procedure rooms
• Safe and efficient medical procedures
• Provide patients with educational materials pertaining to upcoming procedures; answer any questions
• Patient satisfaction
• Obtain insurance authorizations for prescriptions and procedures
• Patient satisfaction
• Make appointments, answer phones, scan documents and medical records into EMR
• Patient satisfaction and accurate clinical follow up
• Reply and process medical records requests
• Accuracy of care.
