Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking an IRL Technologist for the Douglasville, GA area. In this role you will perform donor and patient tests and interpret results to determine compatibility, resolve serologic issues, and provide expert reference services to hospitals and transfusion services.

You will handle automated and manual test procedures, manage specimen flow, inventory, and equipment, and work on a team during the 3rd shift (10pm-6am or 11pm-7am).

Qualifications

  • MT(ASCP) certification required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in biological science or chemistry.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience.
  • MLT (ASCP) certification with 5 years of blood banking experience can be substituted.
  • State license may be required where applicable.
  • Good written and verbal communication; team-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Resolving compatibility problems and providing complex reference to hospitals.
  • Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
  • Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of samples; document issues.
  • Oversee reagent inventory and supply issues; ensure quality control.
  • Collaborate with medical facilities to resolve serologic problems.
