Job summary

The American Red Cross in Columbia, SC is seeking an IRL Technologist II to perform donor and patient testing and interpret results for donor-recipient compatibility. You will resolve compatibility issues and provide reference and consultation to hospitals and transfusion services.

Typical duties include automated and manual test procedures, managing sample receipt and transport, inventory control, and collaboration with medical staff to resolve serologic problems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological science or chemistry (MT(ASCP)).
• Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent education.
• MLT (ASCP) certification with 5 years blood banking experience can be substituted.
• State license may be required where applicable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Resolve compatibility problems and provide complex reference services to hospitals and transfusion services.
• Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
• Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples.
• Manage reagent inventory and equipment inspection and preparation.
