Job summary

Grand River Dam Authority is seeking a Journeyman Technician Senior - Powerlines to join our Transmission Headquarters near Pryor, OK. The role includes installing, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage transmission and distribution lines and equipment, following NESC and IEEE guidelines, while prioritizing safety and efficiency.

Qualified candidates will have at least five years of HV experience, a Journeyman Lineman credential, a High School Diploma, and relevant licenses such as Class A CDL

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in high-voltage electric transmission and distribution.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Completion of a 4-year course of study for journeyman lineman from a recognized trade or technical school.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains and repairs high-voltage transmission and distribution lines and related equipment.
  • Work safely in extreme weather conditions for extended hours during outages.
  • Obtain material through GRDA warehouse using correct codes and work orders.
  • Ensure projects are performed safely and in accordance with GRDA and governing rules.
  • Coordinate with other GRDA divisions and departments on logistics and projects.
  • Train Apprentice 1-4 level employees.
  • Operate high-voltage switches and maintain required clearances.

GRDA is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Journeyman Technician Senior - Powerlines at its Transmission Headquarters location near Pryor OK.

The position is responsible for, but not limited to, performing transmission and distribution high-voltage work required of a journeyman lineman in transmission and distribution of electric service to the GRDA customers located throughout northeast Oklahoma.

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Installs, maintains and repairs high-voltage transmission and distribution lines and related equipment.
  • Must be able to work safely in extreme weather conditions for extended hours during emergency outages and other situations.
  • Repair or replace equipment and hardware associated with high-voltage transmission and distribution electric service including poles, cross-arms, insulators, x-braces, grounding, transformers etc.
  • Follow NESC and IEEE guidelines for installation of transmission and distribution poles and conductor.
  • Must be familiar with rules and guidelines to install high voltage equipment safely and correctly.
  • Secure equipment and materials needed to complete a project and obtain material through the GRDA warehouse using the correct project codes and work order numbers.
  • Help ensure all projects are performed in a safe manner in accordance with GRDA, NESC and other governing rules and regulations.
  • Work with other GRDA divisions and departments in maintaining all aspects of GRDA electrical transmission/distribution system.
  • Coordinate with other crafts on logistics and assigned projects.
  • Must always conduct activities and performance in a professional manner with other GRDA departments and customers.
  • Responsible for assigned preventive and corrective work orders generated through GRDA’s asset management program.
  • Must be able to safely operate high-voltage switches and obtain clearance holder certification.
  • Required to be on call, available for extended hours of the workday and available for callouts after normal working hours.
  • Train Apprentice 1-4 level employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualities:
  • Safely operate equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, aerial lifts, line trucks, cranes, back hoes, trenching machinery, utility vehicles, tractors, and other mobile equipment used in the construction and maintenance of high-voltage transmission/distribution electric industry.
  • Must be able to carry and operate a fire extinguisher, swiftly evacuate areas if necessary, and wear all required PPE (hardhat, FR clothing, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, fall protection).
  • Must complete all required web-based, textbook, and instructor led training courses.
  • Must be able to safely perform work as assigned and provide oversight of crew’s adherence to safety protocol.
  • Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex high-voltage troubleshooting.
  • Must have strong work ethic and clean safety record.
Education, Training, Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in high-voltage electric transmission and distribution.
  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of a 4-year course of study for journeyman lineman from a recognized trade, technical, vocational school, or other institute of higher learning.
Certificates, Registrations, Licenses:
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license, or the ability to convert within 90 days for those with an out of state driver’s license that are an Oklahoma resident.
  • Must have a valid Class A CDL driver's license with no restrictions.
  • Must have OSHA 10 certificate or obtain certificate as soon as possible after employment.
  • Journeyman Lineman License/certification.
  • Must obtain a GRDA switchman certificate and obtain certified clearance holder certificate from GRDA’s System Operations.
  • Arc Flash Training and other training to be completed as required by GRDA policy.
  • Must complete study of Crane Operator Certificate (GRDA will furnish training as required).
Physical/Mental Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Will be required to stand and walk on cement floors, rock surfaces, uneven ground, slippery surfaces, and open grating.
  • Must be able to work and climb safely at heights from wood and steel structures and from aerial devices.
  • Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.
  • Will be required to sit, bend stoop, perform above shoulder work, and work with arms extended.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. from the floor level.
  • Employee will be required to push and pull heavy objects while standing, crouching, and in bent posture.
  • Must ensure assigned tasks are performed efficiently and safely.
  • Work locations are primarily outdoors in high and low extreme temperature environment.
  • High decibel noise and confined spaces are expected.
  • Twenty-four-hour emergency high-voltage repair work may be required during system interruptions.
  • Ensure material and hardware are installed as per GRDA and manufacturers’ guidelines.
  • Must abide by all GRDA safety policies.
Other Information:

Workstation is located at Pryor Ok, Transmission Headquarters with field work throughout GRDA’s electrical system, primarily Northeast Oklahoma.
