Location: Northeast Region. May consider qualified applicants from other areas. 100% Remote with nearly 100% domestic business travel

Reports to: Service Manager

Standard Schedule: Monday – Friday, with hours varying; must be able to work weekends, early mornings, and some evenings

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly

Compensation: $27 - $46 per hour

Job Responsibilities: The Service Technician–Mechanic travels to customer locations to install, maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and printing issues for Koenig & Bauer printing presses. The technician interacts directly with customers, listening to their needs and asking probing questions to prepare for installations or service calls. Effective communication of technical information and resolutions to customers with varying technical knowledge is essential. The technician must develop a plan of action to address customer issues, emphasizing quality work (fix it right the first time), efficiency to minimize downtime, and cost control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on Koenig & Bauer equipment at customer sites, including but not limited to gripper settings, pump and inker issues, seals, register drives, ink key seals, clamps, bladder replacements, machine crashes, perfector issues, and cylinder replacements.
  • Install Koenig & Bauer equipment (40-inch and larger) and sub-supplier equipment such as Baldwin cabinets, Technotrans, or AGT cabinets, following blueprints from delivery to commissioning, including base units, inker placement, infeed, extension, delivery, and feeder installation; placement of pumps and cabinets.
  • Conduct thorough audits on presses, inspecting for worn or damaged parts, emphasizing safety-related issues. Identify parts, estimate repair times, and prioritize repairs based on safety, quality, and production needs.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues using documentation, internal resources, and research to identify repairs and root causes accurately.
  • Develop and execute repair plans, including parts procurement, scheduling, and coordination with customers and Koenig & Bauer departments for additional labor or specialized skills.
  • Provide excellent customer service during all interactions, including greeting, listening, informing, and following up with customers.
  • Complete service calls thoroughly, arranging alternative schedules if needed, and documenting all work performed accurately in required systems.
  • Follow all customer site policies, safety procedures, and use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform other related duties as needed based on business requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; post-high school technical certification preferred in printing, industrial, or plant maintenance.
  • Minimum of two years' related experience in printing, press manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • Basic computer skills including email, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, and business systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with basic hand tools such as wrenches, ratchets, sockets, pliers, hammers, screwdrivers.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical CAD drawings.
