Job summary

Barry Callebaut is hiring a Maintenance Technician for our St. Albans, VT facility. The role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining process and packaging equipment to maximize production while upholding safety and quality standards.

You will support daily maintenance activities, assist in changeovers, and participate in projects to improve equipment performance and manufacturing processes. A high school or vocational diploma and 5+ years of manufacturing experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High School or vocational school diploma required.
  • PREFERRED: vocational/industrial maintenance training or apprenticeship.
  • Must read manuals, line diagrams and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Observe safety, sanitation, GMP and HACCP requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems on equipment.
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting capabilities on control systems, pumps, motors, HMIs, and PLCs on complex process and packaging equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as necessary, with advanced technical effort when needed.
  • Train production employees for setups and operation of equipment.
  • Participate in projects and/or rebuilds.
  • Support food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in day-to-day support of operators for adjustments, setups, and changeovers.

About the role

This position is responsible for facilitation of troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, installing, and improving process and packaging equipment to maximize production and maintain high standards in safety and quality. This position also improves maintenance procedures and manufacturing processes for the improvement of safety, quality, delivery, cost and culture.

Shift Hours: Sunday Monday and Tuesday 5:45am - 6:00pm and Wednesday 5:45am - 12:00pm. OR Sunday Monday and Tuesday 5:45pm - 6:00am and Wednesday 5:45pm - 12:00am. Shift Differential: 10% hourly rate. OR Wednesday 11:45pm - 6:00am and Thursday Friday and Saturday 5:45pm - 6:00am Shift Differential: 20% hourly rate.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Observe all safety, sanitation, GMP and HACCP requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems on equipment.
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting capabilities on control systems, pumps, motors, HMIs, and PLCs on complex process and packaging equipment.
  • Perform various equipment preventive maintenance tasks as necessary, but routinely in cases requiring advanced technical expertise.
  • Responsible for safety compliance personally and with equipment.
  • Review documentation for maintenance activity using the maintenance database, adequately communicate maintenance issues to appropriate employees (e.g., other maintenance techs, operators, engineers, supervisors, etc.), and properly utilize the maintenance inventory system.
  • Train production employees as needed for set‑ups, operation of all equipment, etc.
  • Participate in projects and/or rebuilds.
  • Responsible for food safety as well as meeting all regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in day‑to‑day support of operators for adjustments, setups, and change overs.
About you
  • High School or vocational school diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ manufacturing experience, required.
  • Food manufacturing experience, preferred.
  • Vocational school, Industrial maintenance degree, technical college training, satisfactory completion of formal apprentice program, preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand manuals, line diagrams and schematics, required.
  • Ability to identify and analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, required.
  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances, required.
  • High degree of attention and care required preventing injury to others with responsibility for flow of electrical power.
  • Exposed to voltages up to 480.
  • Ability to work at high heights, i.e., on roofs, aerial lifts, elevated platforms, up to 50 feet while wearing fall protection and proper PPE.
  • Able to lift 75 lbs, frequently with mechanical assistance.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs, regularly.
  • Able to lift 100 lbs, occasionally.
  • Kneel, squat, bend, stoop; frequently.
  • Twist, stretch, reach overhead, frequently.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to walk up and down stairs, frequently.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures inside and outside the facility.
  • Noise level can exceed .85 decibels.
  • Ability to use computer screens for periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for periods of time.
