Job summary

Katy ISD Maintenance and Operations seeks a Technician - Lead HVAC Duct Cleaning/PM to lead and coordinate the district’s filter maintenance program, oversee duct cleaning, and ensure safe, efficient operation across facilities.

The role requires HVAC knowledge, EPA certifications, and the ability to manage crews, read manuals, and keep records while working a 11:30am–7:30pm shift.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • HVAC trade school or technical training preferred.
  • EPA Certification I & II (Universal) preferred; Texas State Contractors License Type B preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Valid Texas Operator’s License required.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, air filtration, and preventive maintenance.
  • Knowledge of indoor air quality standards and duct cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to read/interpret manuals, drawings, and work orders.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate crew activities.
  • Safety procedures related to HVAC maintenance and hazardous materials handling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of the HVAC filter crew and duct cleaning operations.
  • Coordinate purchasing, delivery, distribution, and installation of filters for district HVAC systems.
  • Perform duct cleaning using negative air machines, HEPA vacuums, brushes, and compressed air tools.
  • Operate and maintain HVAC cleaning tools and safety equipment.
  • Identify damaged ductwork and indoor air quality concerns.
  • Document service reports and preventive maintenance in the work order system.
  • Train and mentor crew on procedures, safety, and equipment.
  • Assist HVAC technicians on repairs or projects as needed.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance and after-hours calls when required.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment per district policies.

Qualifications:


High School Diploma or GED preferred


HVAC trade school or technical training (preferred)


Valid Texas Operator’s License


Any equivalent combination of education, experience and qualifications that the administration determines to be appropriate and acceptable may be considered


Knowledge of HVAC systems, air filtration systems and preventative maintenance practices


Knowledge of indoor air quality standards and duct cleaning procedures


Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings and work orders


Ability to supervise and coordinate work activities of assigned personnel


Knowledge of safety procedures related to HVAC maintenance and hazardous materials handling


Must possess minimum EPA certification I and II (Universal certification preferred)


Texas State Contractors License Type B (Preferred) or ability to obtain

Primary Purpose:


This position is responsible for leading and coordinating the district’s HVAC filter maintenance program to support safe, efficient and healthy learning environment across all district facilities. This position performs HVAC preventative maintenance duties, oversees filter replacement schedules, oversees and assists with duct cleaning operations and provides leadership and guidance to filter crew personnel.



Major Duties and Responsibilities


  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of the HVAC filter crew and duct cleaning operations.

  • Coordinate the purchasing, delivery, distribution and installation of filters for all HVAC AHUs, OAHUs and split systems district wide.

  • Coordinate and perform duct cleaning activities using negative air machines, HEPA vacuums, rotary brushes, air whips and compressed air tools.

  • Operate and maintain tools, lifts, vacuums and specialized HVAC cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Identify damaged ductwork, airflow restrictions and indoor air quality concerns.

  • Complete service reports, inspection documentation, preventative maintenance records and related work activities within the district work order system.

  • Train and mentor crew personnel on proper procedures, safety practices and equipment operation.

  • Assist HVAC technicians and other maintenance trades as needed on repairs or special projects.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations and assist during after-hours calls as required.

  • Maintain as safe and clean working environment in accordance with district policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work a designated mid-day shift schedule of 11:30am-7:30pm to support district operational and facility needs.



Equipment Used:


Computer, meters, gauges, ladders, hoists, lifts, HVAC Duct Cleaning Equipment, hand and power tools, light truck or van.



Working Conditions:


Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel.
