Technician III - Sewer

Reports to: Foreperson - Plumbing

Salary: $45,872-$55,261

POSITION PURPOSE

Maintains the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide; maintains and provides for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assembles, installs, maintains, and pressure tests all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of All sewer system applications, Heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Detects needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures. Determines sources of plumbing malfunctions and completes repairs as indicated or according to work orders.

Installs and repairs pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment including sinks, commodes, and water heaters.

Receives and completes work orders. Selects material and hardware and makes time and materials estimates. Maintains accurate records on material and labor used.

Inspects jobs upon completion and ensures areas are clean.

Works with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

Maintains inventory of District-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

Responds to emergency calls as needed.

SAFETY

Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.

Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Knowledge on how to operate Ridged tracer and sonde transmitter.

Knowledge on how to operate Spartan Hydro jetter.

Knowledge on how a grease trap works and how to maintain in working order.

Knowledge and understanding of sewer ejector pump stations and maintenance removal and cleaning procedures.

Knowledge of how a sewer system operates.

Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.

Knowledge of plumbing codes.

Skill in coordinating, planning, organizing, leading, and completing projects.

Skill with continuous improvement, applying problem-solving models, and making recommendations.

Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS

Tools/Equipment Used: Might use standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals, to access and status work orders; plumbing tools and equipment including pipe bender, propane torch; hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including forklift, trencher, backhoe; light truck or van.

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Environment: Work with human waste daily. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.

Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas High School Equivalency certificate.

Certifications: Registered Texas Plumber's Apprentice with Drain Cleaner-Restricted Registration required; Texas Plumbers Journeyman License preferred; Valid Texas driver's license; Insurable by the District's insurance carrier required.

Experience: 3 years' in plumbing experience required.

Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.

INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS

Must be at least 21 years old.

NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.

NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:

  • Moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);
  • Failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;
  • Equipment violations.

NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.

NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).

NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.

NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.

NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.

NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.

NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).

NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.

NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.

NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.

Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
