TransCore (TRN),a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a Technician II to join our team in Houston, Texas.

Job Description: The Technician II will perform on-site or in-house servicing, repair and/or installation of company product(s). This job may include any aspect of field support and installation, and is not limited to electrical, data, and fiber optic cable installation. Determines most effective means to install equipment to maximize efficiency. This is a heavy travel position that will see a significant amount of time out-of-town.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Installs equipment including but not limited to servers, cameras, detectors, controller cabinets.
  • Installs electrical conductor, data conductor, and fiber optic cable.
  • Connects conductors to equipment to make equipment work correctly.
  • Connects electrical conductors to power services to energize equipment.
  • Tests devices to ensure they work correctly.
  • Prepares logs to keep track of field conditions and installation activities.
  • Mentors/trains less experienced technicians.
  • Travel to other cities to install equipment.

Education: Associates degree in an electronics or computer discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • Basic electronic theory and electrical practice
  • Use of digital multi-meter for servicing equipment
  • Use of hand and power tools to install equipment into various buildings, cabinets, and racks.
  • Microsoft Office/Word/Excel
  • Windows XP/7/10 TCP/IP setup
  • Remote computer system management
  • Read and interpret schematic diagrams & construction plans
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware
  • Self starter that is able to work with minimal supervision
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Work hours other than 7am to 4pm with days off other than Saturday and Sunday

Desired Skills:

  • A+ Certification, or other related certification
  • Windows XP/7/10 registry editing
  • Experience with LAN/WAN networks
  • CCTV Camera installation and tuning experience

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
