Job summary

Nabors is seeking a Field Technician to perform diversified mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs on drilling equipment with Canrig components. You will troubleshoot using meters and scopes, certify installations, and travel to customer sites, including offshore, while maintaining tools and documenting service work.

Requirements include a high school diploma or technical training, fluent English, and the ability to read and write reports.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience - High school diploma, and trade/technical school diploma or 2 years related experience in any one of the following: Mechanical, Electrical, Drilling Systems or Electronics.
  • Language Skills - Must be fluent in English, able to read instructions, write simple correspondence and present information.
  • Mathematical Skills - Add, subtract, multiply, divide in units of measure and compute rates and percentages.
  • Reasoning Ability - Apply common sense and follow written or oral instructions with concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills - Knowledge of word processing, email and basic computer operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diversified mechanical, electrical or hydraulic repairs on Canrig components at the well site or shop.
  • Troubleshoot systems using meters, probes and scopes; commission and install equipment.
  • Travel extensively to customer locations, onshore and offshore, and document work performed.
  • Maintain tools, complete service reports and follow safety programs.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call technical support during rotation and assist field teams.

Job description

Technician will perform diversified medial tasks relating to product assembly including component repair, troubleshooting of communication, electrical, hydraulic and/or mechanical systems, commissioning, executing planned and unplanned work orders and installation of Canrig components or equipment. This equipment includes the Top Drive, Power House, Driller’s cabin, Drawworks, pipe handling systems, portable substation transformer (PowerTAP), crown lights (Illumic) and Fuel enhancer dosing units (nanO2) while using various precision tools and equipment. The technician will also serve as the primary point of contact at the well site for the contractor and operator during the job.

  • Possess all skills and requirements of a Level 1 Technician.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge with ability to troubleshoot electrical components up to 600 volts and hydraulic components up to 5000psi safely and effectively.
  • Assist higher level technicians, as well as work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Performs repairs using various hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Assist in troubleshooting using multimeters, amp probes, meggers and scopes.
  • Extensive travel to customer locations (land and offshore).
  • Assist in installation of company manufactured drilling equipment and software.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting and repair of company manufactured drilling equipment and software.
  • Maintain and complete documentation including detailed Service and Expense Reports.
  • Visit drilling rigs operating within the technician’s geographic regions.
  • Remain alert to all opportunities to install additional systems on new rigs and to upgrade, or add-on new equipment.
  • Comply with and participate in company safety and quality programs.
  • Maintain company issued tools and be knowledgeable and skillful in the use of these tools.
  • Attend all Canrig required scheduled training classes.
  • Providing 24 hour on-call technical support while on-rotation following Canrig’s duty cycle policies and procedures.
  • Customer relations and field sales of CANRIG products and services.
  • Complete required paperwork, documentation, and billing accurately and timely.
  • Utilization of time management.
  • Maintaining the issued truck parts and tool inventory.

  • Computer Skills - General knowledge of word processing software and email messaging, and an all-around general knowledge of computers operations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • All required safety certifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Basic Microsoft Office Skills.
  • Associates Degree or advanced training.
  • Basic knowledge of Oil & Gas industry.
