Job Summary
Communications Technician I (Structured Cabling) – works as part of a technical team with 0-1 year experience.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and wall; route and terminate cable using fish tape or other methods.
- Build closets: mount and install backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware; install grounding as required.
- Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, pull cable through sleeves and core penetration.
- Terminate low‑voltage devices.
- Complete all IES commercial paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers).
- Adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Tools
- Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves.
- Trade tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade.

- Work at heights, off a ladder, confined spaces; lift up to 50 lbs, move up to 75 lbs.
- Travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
- Regular attendance mandatory.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- 0-1 year experience in telecommunications or related technical field.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Basic construction industry knowledge preferred.
- Basic tool skills and ability to learn listed tools.
Compensation
USD $18.00/hr – $22.00/hr.
