BEUMER Group is seeking a Technician I to perform electrical and mechanical maintenance on the BEUMER ICS baggage handling system at Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR).

The role involves diagnosing faults across mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems, and coordinating with SAC and PLC systems under supervision. Candidates should have an Electrical or Mechanical degree or equivalent experience, 0–2 years in automated material handling, and be eligible for airside security

Qualifications

• 1–2 years in automated material handling systems; airport/logistics preferred.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain airside security clearance.
• Proficient with BEUMER SAC systems; PLC fault diagnostics; sensors/actuators.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced maintenance on BEUMER ICS components.
• Diagnose faults across mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems.
• Respond to interruptions; perform resets and root cause analysis.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance per BEUMER standards.
• Interface with SAC and PLC systems; monitor performance and intervene as needed.
• Inspect system health with diagnostic tools; propose throughput improvements.
• Maintain logs of maintenance activities and spare parts usage.
• Follow health, safety, quality controls; use lockout/tagout and PPE.
• Communicate status and improvements with shifts and teams.
• Support system upgrades and hardware retrofits with engineering.
• Participate in reliability-centered maintenance reviews.

Job Description

The Technician I will be responsible for the electrical and mechanical maintenance of the baggage handling system. The required maintenance will follow processes and procedures established for the overall system maintenance and requests for service which includes both electrical and mechanical work. This position will perform work under supervision of the Shift Supervisor. This role will support the BEUMER Individual Carrier System (ICS) at Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR).

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced maintenance on BEUMER ICS components, including IC elements, diverters, scanners, and third-party equipment used to interface with the system.
• Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems using structured troubleshooting methods.
• Respond to system interruptions caused by carrier jams, sensor faults, or control logic errors; execute resets and root cause analysis.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance aligned with BEUMER Group standards and OEM documentation.
• Interface with BEUMER’s High-Level Control (SAC) and PLC systems to monitor performance and execute logic-based interventions.
• Inspect system health using diagnostic tools and performance dashboards; recommend optimizations to improve throughput and reliability.
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, fault trends, and spare part usage in compliance with reporting protocols.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety, and Quality Control standards, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements.
• Communicate clearly with Shift Supervisors and cross-functional teams regarding system status, escalations, and improvement opportunities.
• Support system upgrades, and updates, including hardware retrofits in collaboration with engineering and OEM representatives.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including failure mode analysis and reliability-centered maintenance reviews.
• Execute additional tasks or projects as assigned by management or supervisory staff.

Pay Rate:

$24.00 per hour

Qualifications

• Electrical or Mechanical Degree, Technical Certificate, or equivalent experience
• 0-2 years of hands-on experience in automated material handling systems, preferably within airport or logistics environments.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain airside security clearance.
• Deep understanding of mechatronic systems, including sensors, actuators, motors, and controls.
• Proficiency in BEUMER SAC systems, PLC programming (Siemens preferred), and fault diagnostics.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, including Profinet, CANbus, and other Fieldbus systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and software documentation.
• Skilled in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and software interfaces for system analysis.

Work Environment

• Operates in a fast-paced airport setting with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and variable temperatures.
• Requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating shift schedule.
• Frequent walking, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, and standing across large terminal and baggage areas.
