Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks a Technician I, Facilities Mechanical Systems at the Northwest Campus in Fort Worth. You will tend to ventilation and heating equipment such as fans, vacuum pumps, air compressors, vents, and ducts to keep building systems running efficiently.

This on-site role supports safety and reliability, with regular daytime hours and occasional on-call duties. A background in HVAC and mechanical systems is valued for successful performance.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and three (3) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, or any equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Prefered: Boiler operation and maintenance experience
  • Prefered: HVAC-related certifications

Responsibilities

  • Operates, monitors, and adjusts mechanical, HVAC, and building systems to maintain safe and efficient facility operations
  • Performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment and systems
  • Monitors system controls and gauges; documents readings and status using established reporting processes
  • Troubleshoots mechanical system issues and escalates significant malfunctions as appropriate
  • Applies and manages boiler, water treatment, andHVAC chemicals per safety standards
  • Maintains cleanliness and functionality of mechanical spaces, fans, vents, and ductwork
  • Participates in on-call rotations and variable shifts as needed
  • Communicates effectively with faculty and staff to support campus operations

Compensation Details: Starting Pay - $50,500

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 1:00pm - 9:00pm

Job Summary

Reporting to the assigned department leader, this role isresponsible for tending to ventilation and heating equipment suchas fans, vacuum pumps, air compressors, vents and ducts, andlubrication oil used in buildings by performing the followingduties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements
  • Operates, monitors, and adjusts mechanical, HVAC, and buildingsystems to maintain safe and efficient facility operations
  • Performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minorrepairs on equipment and systems, including pumps, valves, gauges,and bearings
  • Monitors system controls and gauges; documents readings,maintenance activities, and equipment status using establishedreporting processes
  • Troubleshoots mechanical system issues, identifies abnormalconditions, and escalates significant malfunctions asappropriate
  • Applies and manages boiler, water treatment, and HVAC chemicalsin accordance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Maintains cleanliness and functionality of mechanical spaces,fans, vents, and ductwork to ensure proper system performance
  • Adheres to safety policies and participates in on-call rotationsand variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, asoperational needs require
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external communityorganizations and associations as assigned to support the essentialperformance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, andfollows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of theworksite
  • Completes all required training and professional developmentsessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC)Institute
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of theCollege
Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the assigned departmentleader

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED and three (3) years' workingexperience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, orany equivalent combination of education and work-relatedexperience
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two (2) year's working experience in the operation andmaintenance of boilers, air conditioning units or relatedequipment
  • Certificate or degree in environmental science, engineering,wastewater treatment technology, or related field from a vocationalschool or community college.
  • Current HVAC certification
  • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
  • Current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of steam and hot water heating equipment and commercialair conditioning equipment
  • Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical components within theplant
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonalrelationships
  • Skilled using computerized monitoring systems, software,applications and enterprise systems, including word processing,spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to identify routine issues and elevate non-standardproblems using established procedures in a fast-paced workenvironment
  • Ability to review basic information and follow policies,procedures, and guidelines when completing assigned tasks
  • Ability to coordinate assigned work and communicate effectivelywith faculty and staff to support departmental and campusoperations
