Job summary

IES Communications is seeking a Technician I - Apprentice to join our field team. You will learn to install outlets, run drop cables, install in closets, perform pre-termination, and ensure proper labeling and routing on walls, floors, and furniture.

This entry-level role requires the ability to work outdoors/indoors, lift up to 50 pounds, read blueprints, travel as needed, and adhere to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Zero to one year in telecommunications or related technical field preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture and walls; drop cable with proper routing.
  • Build closets with backboards, patch panels, racks and grounding.
  • Perform fire-stopping, terminate low-voltage devices, and complete paperwork on time.
  • Adhere to all safety and quality standards; travel within territory as needed.

Job Summary:

The Technician I - Apprentice must learn and possess the skills required to function as a contributing member of a technical team. Typically, the Technician I has no experience to one (1) year of experience in the structured cabling industry.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Technician I - Apprentice will install a work area outlet for floor (i.e. monument), modular furniture (i.e. surface mount box) and wall (i.e. box eliminator). Drop cable down a wall using fish tape or other method. Route cable through modular furniture. Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables and determine length, slack and label cables. Suspend and support cable correctly: Cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, Bridal rings, Trapeze.
  • The Technician I – Apprentice will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
  • The Technician I - Apprentice performsfire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves,and pullcable through sleeves and core penetration.
  • The Technician I - Apprentice will terminate low-voltage devices.
  • The Technician I - Apprentice will fully complete all IES COMMUNICATIONS paperwork accurately and ontime(timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
  • The Technician I - Apprentice willadhereto and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • The Technician I - Apprentice will complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • The Technician I - Apprentice must be able to work in an outdoor orindoorconstructionwork environment.
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemustbe self-motivated, positive inapproach,professional and help create, develop and implementprojectprocess improvement(s).
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemustpromote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemustpossess proven problem solving and critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemusthave proven skill level or the ability to learn to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemustbe able to work at heights,offa ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk very large job sites regularly.
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemustbe able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • The Technician I - Apprenticemustbe able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.

Tools:

  • Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves
  • Trade Tools: Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of zero (0) to one (1) year experience intelecommunicationsor related technical field.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Basic construction industry knowledge preferred.
  • Must possess and learn to effectively use the listed tools.
  • Ability tomeet Company minimum driving standards preferred.
