Job summary

Boralex Inc. in New York seeks a Hydro Operator to join our team on a permanent part-time basis (approximately 25 hours per week).

You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of hydroelectric generator systems, under mentorship, ensuring safe and reliable power production. The role requires experience with electro-mechanical systems, high voltage knowledge, and ability to read electrical/mechanical drawings.

Qualifications

  • Experience with repair and maintenance of electro-mechanical systems and related equipment preferred.
  • High voltage transmission and distribution training and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and repair hydroelectric generator systems.
  • Perform station and unit operations as required.
  • Identify and repair electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and ensure compliance by personnel and contractors.

This is a permanent part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week)

You will play an important role in:

As a Hydro Operator, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of hydroelectric generator systems. With the mentorship of an experienced Hydro Operator, your main tasks will be:

  • Practice safe work habits and follow correct safety policies and procedures;
  • Ensure that company personnel, contractors, and consultants are following company approved safety policies, procedures, and that company property is protected by performing the applicable duties;
  • Perform station and unit operations as required;
  • Identify and repair as necessary, station hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems including analytical problem solving/troubleshooting;

To succeed in this position, you need:

  • Experience with repair and maintenance of electro-mechanical systems and related equipment is preferred as follows: Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulics, PLC troubleshooting and programming;
  • High voltage transmission and distribution training and experience;
  • Working knowledge of the OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E and Arc Flash requirements;
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic drawings and schematics;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required;
  • Flexibility to add skills and work in a multi-disciplinary environment;
  • Be able and willing to perform physical labor as needed;
  • Knowledge of windows based software including Outlook, Excel, Word;
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record required;
