Job summary

Nutrien Ag Solutions Limited in Texas is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to manage and maintain the DCS/PLC platform and related infrastructure across our production and operations. You will ensure reliability, implement improvements, and support project execution with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates bring hands-on experience with DCS/PLC systems, SCADA, and networked instrumentation in a manufacturing setting, plus strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage DCS and PLC platform maintenance and lifecycle management.
• Maintain process information systems historian and connectivity to DCS.
• Provide day-to-day troubleshooting for operations using DCS/PLC/SCADA.
• Assist design and management of improvements to DCS/PLC platform and network.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and electrical systems; support I&E as needed.
• Collaborate with Process Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Projects.
• Develop/redline P&IDs and electrical drawings/schematics.

What You'll Do:

• Management of the DCS and PLC platform and associated infrastructure regarding its maintenance and life-cycle management to ensure continued reliability.
• Maintenance of the process information systems historian and connectivity to the DCS.
• Utilize DCS, PLC and communications technical expertise to provide day to day troubleshooting to operations.
• Assist with design, implementation and management of improvement projects related to the DCS/PLC platform and network.
• Troubleshoot, analyze, maintain, and repair instrumentation and electrical systems, primarily focused on DCS but providing additional I&E support as needed. Including network ethernet and fiber optics
• Work within a team environment that includes Process Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Projects
• Troubleshoot Distributed Control Systems (DCS) at the network, controller and I/O level to resolve customer problems in an efficient manner and keep systems running
• Develop and/or redline P&IDs, electrical drawings/schematics, control documents and loop drawings

What You'll Bring:

• Two years education at a vocational/technical school in the electrical or instrumentation field, or 5+ years’ directly related experience required
• Experience with DCS and PLCs is required, with preference given to individuals with Honeywell Experion expertise.
• 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing plant or industrial environment required
• Knowledge of electronic and pneumatic controllers and valve positioners
• Experience working with DCS, PLC’s and SCADA
• Knowledge of all types of instruments and electrical test equipment
• Experience with three phase motors, motor controls and Electrical distribution systems
• Understand electrical safe work practices
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical ability
