Job summary

BENTELER is seeking a Professional Maintenance Technician for our Steel/Tube division in Shreveport, LA. The role focuses on crane maintenance, safety compliance, and reliable plant operations in an on-site setting.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, 2+ years crane experience, and expertise with AC/DC electromechanical systems. On-site duties include coordinating repairs and inspections and working in an on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working on industrial cranes or similar equipment.
• Strong background in AC/DC electromechanical and motor control systems.
• Ability to work safely in an industrial maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

• Participate in safety activities to meet goals and expectations.
• Develop and maintain a culture of professionalism across the team.
• Follow all rules, policies, and expectations.
• Coordinate effective repairs and maintenance on crane equipment using SAP.
• Perform daily crane inspections and periodic load testing.
• Complete daily work activities with operational priorities in mind.
• Provide hands-on support to maintenance staff.
• Train and evaluate shift personnel on crane use and maintenance.
• Be available for on-call rotation and other duties as assigned by management.

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for participating in safety activities to meet or exceed organizational goals and expectations.


• Be an active participant of developing and maintaining a culture of professionalism.


• Responsible for following all rules, policies, or expectations.


• Coordinate effective repairs and maintenance on facility crane equipment utilizing SAP.


• Responsible for daily and regulatory crane inspections as well as periodic load testing of each crane in the mill.


• Complete daily work activities taking into consideration all operational priorities.


• Perform work through hands‑on assistance to all maintenance staff.


• Overall responsible for the training and evaluation of all shift personal regarding crane use and maintenance.


• Will be required to be in the on‑call rotation.


• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification required.


• AA/AS or the equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.


• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working on industrial cranes.


• Strong background in AC and DC electromechanical and solid‑state motor control systems.


• Competency in working with 480V 3 phase motor control systems.


• Mechanical experience with gear reducers and drive systems a plus.


• Working at heights.


• Perform preventative maintenance and inspection to assure reliability of the cranes and hoists.


• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, coworkers, and management.
