Job summary

Nucraft in Comstock Park, MI is seeking a Finish/Paint Technician to drive process consistency in the finish department. You will formulate, mix, and apply finishes, document instructions, and audit compliance, collaborating with Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering.

The role requires 3–5 years in finish/paint manufacturing, strong teamwork, good time management, and the ability to work Monday-Thursday 6:00am-3:00pm with OT on Fridays.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain a score of 16 or better on a Nucraft color test.
  • Teamwork orientation—work with multiple levels of the organization (Manufacturing Engineering and Shop Floor operator relationships will be crucial)

  • 3-5 years of experience in a finish or paint manufacturing environment is required
  • Experience in a Lab setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Document and maintain process control of the mixing and application of all formulations. This includes work instructions and auditing for compliance.
  • Work closely with Maintenance to assure TPM accuracy and equipment capability within specification.
  • Document and maintain process control of surface preparation through machine and hand sanding process.
  • Monitor critical quality characteristics of materials and environment and adjust to keep outputs in tolerance.
  • Problem solving shop floor issues in real time using scientific methodology to maintain output metrics.
  • Collaborate with material suppliers to implement improvements and new finishes.
  • Collaborate with marketing and manufacturing engineering to develop and bring new finishes to the finish line.
  • Self-driven; not requiring continual supervision.
  • Adhere to safety policies and ensure new processes meet safety requirements.
  • Research and implement tools and training for new finishes (color markers, color combinations for patches, etc.).
  • Release a new finish to the floor with a documented standard/tolerance.
  • Communicate to the floor about finishes that are discontinued and what may need removal.

Position Summary

This position is required to drive process consistency through a Finish (Stain) and Paint department where formulations are determined, mixed and executed through specific routing steps in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Document and maintain process control of the mixing and application of all formulations. This includes work instructions and auditing for compliance.
  • Work closely with Maintenance to assure our TPM is accurate and that our equipment is capable of maintaining our output metrics within specification.
  • Document and maintain process control of surface preparation through machine and hand sanding process. This includes work instructions and auditing for compliance.
  • Monitor critical quality characteristics of our material and environment and make necessary adjustments to keep output variables in tolerance.

  • Work with our material supplier to implement improvements and new finishes are required
  • Work with our marketing and manufacturing engineering team to develop and bring new materials and finishes into the finish line.
  • Self-driven - Should not require continual supervision
  • Work within the safety policies / procedures in the finish department and assure that new processes meet those safety requirements.
  • Research and implementation of tools and training needed at Patch and Final Inspection when a new Finish or Paint is implemented (color markers, what colors to combine for patch, etc.).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Hearing protection and mask or respirators are provided where required.

Expected Hours

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Thursday 6:00am to 3:00pm. Friday is scheduled at 6:00AM to 10:00AM but is considered our OT day if needed.
