Job summary

Nucraft Furniture in Comstock Park, MI is seeking an engineer to design and create products within the specials department. You will apply woodworking and design principles to translate concepts into manufacturable parts and help ensure quality throughout the process.

Responsibilities include operating saws and other machinery, inspecting parts, forwarding items to assembly, and performing weekly maintenance. Hours are Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates creativity in solving design challenges and uses feedback to improve designs.
  • Understands design principles for production of precise plans and drawings.
  • Experience with woodworking and wood machining is expected.
  • Works well in a team and manages time effectively.
  • Drives results while being flexible to collaborate with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate listed woodworking and finishing equipment to produce parts.
  • Inspect parts for defects and ensure they meet specifications.
  • Forward parts to assembly for further processing.
  • Perform weekly preventative maintenance checks on machines.
  • Maintain clean work area and assist other departments as needed.

Summary:

Engineer and create products within the specials department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Set up and operate the table saw, drill press, panel saw, overhead router, stroke sander, edge bander, planer, joiner, wide belt sander, black brothers press, edge sander, band saw, cut-off saw, and rip saw.
  • Inspect parts for defects and to ensure product meets specifications.
  • Forward parts to assembly.
  • Weekly preventative maintenance checks.
  • Daily housekeeping of machine and area to keep clean.
  • Assist other departments as necessary
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Achieve matrix of 1 to 3 for current department.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Hearing protection and mask or respirators are provided for where required.

Expected Hours:
  • This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm.
  • Overtime is expected when posted in advance.
Physical Requirements:

  • The associate is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
