Job summary

Network Connex in Cedar Rapids, IA is hiring a Communications Technician II to support installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of mission-critical structured cabling systems in data center environments. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 3–5 years of structured cabling or telecom experience preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred and must be obtained within 90 days.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and decommission critical cabling and network infrastructure in a data center.
  • Follow safety, quality, and production standards and read project drawings.
  • Demonstrate high safety and quality awareness on all tasks.
  • Organize materials and tools, keep the area tidy, and address hazards promptly.
  • Adhere to customer safety, quality, security, and site access policies.

The Communications Technician II supports the installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of mission-critical structured cabling systems within data center environments. This role requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and adherence to company and client safety, quality, and performance standards.

  • Install and decommission critical cabling and network infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
  • Exhibita high levelof Safety and Quality on all work.
  • Follow all Safety, Quality, and Production standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Read,comprehend, and adhere to project design drawings, specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and installation standards.
  • Demonstrate broad understanding of Structured Cabling System installation and commissioning.
  • Proactivelymaintainwork area organization and good housekeeping.
  • Organize materials, tools, and equipment, collect debris, and ensure hazardous conditions are promptly and appropriately addressed.
  • Maintain compliance with customers’ Safety, Quality, Security, and Site Access policies and requirements.

What You Bring to the Table
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 3 to 5 years of structured cabling or telecommunications experience preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred– must obtainwithin90 daysof hire.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within90 daysof hire.
  • Fiber Optic Association certifications preferred.
  • BICSI Technicalcertificationspreferred.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not have direct reports.

Work Location and Travel

This position is on-site daily. Minimal overnight travel (approximately 50%) is expected. The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as may be required by Network Connex.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The standard work environment for this position is primarily indoors, however work outside is at times required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, use hands, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The individual is frequently required to stand and walk. The individual must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The individual may also be required to work from heights and in tight, confined spaces.
