Job summary

Smith Industrial Services is seeking Technician 1 in our Industrial division. This entry‑level role performs general labor for hydroblasting, vacuuming and industrial cleaning during outages, shutdowns, turnarounds, and routine maintenance.

You will operate vacuum trucks and assist with safe, high‑quality work, load and unload gear, and follow PPE and safety protocols. Travel may be required. English communication and reliable transportation are essential.

Qualifications

Technician 1

Department: Industrial

Reports to: Crew Leader and Branch Manager

Status: Non‑Exempt

Purpose

Technician 1 is an entry‑level position. Technicians perform general labor activities associated with hydroblasting, vacuuming, and industrial cleaning services. Duties include hydroblasting work and associated labor in outages, shutdowns, turnarounds, and general maintenance scopes.

Responsibilities
  • Operate wet and dry vacuum trucks.
  • Perform hydroblasting services, including lance/shotgun operation.
  • Load and unload equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Assist others and perform manual tasks as needed.
  • Clean vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed safely and with the highest quality.
  • Report potential issues or concerns to Crew Leader and/or Branch Manager.
  • Use computers for training purposes as needed.
  • Adhere to company policies.
  • Wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Work when scheduled and comply with the company attendance policy.
  • Attend all safety and health training as required.
  • Travel for work, including potentially long periods.
  • Assist in other areas such as shop, parts, inventory, and municipal work.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to use handheld radio/phone.
  • Effective communication with crew and division personnel.
  • Operate a utility/pickup truck for hauling people and equipment.
  • Safety‑first attitude and teamwork.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Normal vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Adaptability to change on short notice.
  • Complete all pre‑ and post‑training, including safety, new hire, and regulatory training.
  • Perform all required safety‑related training: confined space, Entry, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response, Aerial Lift Training, Lock Out Tag Out, Heat Stress, MSHA, Hazard Communications, and H2S.
  • One to two years of physical work in industrial or construction experience preferred; mechanical abilities helpful but not required.
  • Reliable transportation and means of communication.
  • Pass a drug test, background, and motor vehicle check.
  • Valid state‑issued driver’s license and ID.
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying 75‑100 pounds; able to stand, walk, climb, push/pull, squat, kneel, and perform significant wrist, hand, and finger movements.
Work Conditions

Industrial setting, outside environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and elements possible; noisy conditions and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.
