Job summary

Smith Industrial Services in Lucedale, MS is seeking a Crew Leader 1 to lead industrial hydroblasting, vacuum hose operations, and truck operations safely at client sites. You will operate and maintain equipment, supervise crews, and ensure all safety policies are followed.

The role requires at least two years of hydroblasting and vacuum truck experience, CDL tanker endorsement, and strong leadership abilities to manage teams and ensure quality work with compliance to DOT requirements.

Job Title: Crew Leader 1

Employee Name:

Reports to: Branch Manager and General Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Purpose: Lead crews performing industrial hydroblasting services, vacuum hose operations, and truck operations safely and efficiently to complete jobs at the client’s site, following the client and business requirements and company policies, practices, and procedures. In addition, will operate and maintain equipment.

Essential Functions

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Conducts team meetings to update members on best practices and continuing expectations.
  • Supervises/Coaches employees, giving oral and written feedback regulary as required.
  • Timely completes and approves sales tickets, timesheets and time off request as required.
  • Performs corrective actions as needed.
  • Responsible for compliance with all safety policies and procedures for personnel at the worksite, including training, job requirements, reporting, and follow-through.
  • Responsible for supervision of personnel and equipment for successful competition of each required job, including:
    • Ability to lead employees effectively;
    • Assumes responsibility for the safe operation of all required equipment;
    • Completion of all tickets and paperwork efficiently and accurately, as needed, daily.
  • Must perform the following tasks safely and efficiently:
    • Wet and dry vacuum truck operation & functions;
    • Hydroblaster operations, including Lance/Shotgun operation;
    • Hydraulic pump operations;
    • Jetter truck operations;
    • Load and unload equipment, tools, and supplies;
    • Performs manual tasks and assists Technicians and Operators;
    • Responsible for maintenance and care of vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
  • Ensures accurate completion of all required DOT paperwork and daily work tickets.
  • Reports potential issues or concerns to the Branch Manager.
  • Performs safety procedures including JSA’s, lockout tag out, confined space entry, housekeeping, and company-specific procedures.
  • Repair equipment on the job if needed.
  • Leads small groups of personnel on specific qualified jobs.
  • Ensures that tasks are performed safely with the highest level of quality and integrity.
  • Arrive at office or job site on time and ready to work.
  • Adhere to company policies.
  • Wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE.) This includes but is not limited to multiple combinations of respirators, skin, face, hand, and foot protection.
  • Works when scheduled and complies with the company attendance policy.
  • Attends all safety and health training, as required.
  • Travel is required, sometimes for long periods, to perform this work.

  • Assist in other company areas as needed, including but not limited to Shop, Parts, Inventory, and Municipal.

  • Must be able to enter Confined Spaces such as close quarters, crawl spaces, manholes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia for cleaning purposes.

Qualifications
  • Must complete all pre and post-training, including safety, new hire, and regulatory.
  • Must complete all required safety-related training, including, but not limited to, TWIC, 10 Hour OSHA, Confined Space, Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response, Breathing Air Equipment Training and Fit Test, Aerial Lift Training, Lock Out Tag Out, Heat Stress, MSHA, Defensive Driving, Hazard Communications, and H2S.
  • Two Years in verifiable industrial hydroblasting and vacuum truck operation experience; mechanical aptitude helpful.
  • A minimum of two years of prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test as well as a background and motor vehicle check
Specific Licenses

Valid State issued Commercial Driver’s License with a Tanker Endorsement/Class A or B, and DOT Health Card required.

Work conditions

Industrial setting, outside environment, exposure to extreme temperatures and elements possible; exposure to hazardous chemicals possible; extended periods of standing; climbing; ability to use handheld radio/phone
