Job summary

Smith Industrial Services in Pensacola, FL is seeking an entry-level Technician 1 to perform hydroblasting, vacuuming and industrial cleaning duties. This non-exempt role requires safety compliance and teamwork in a field setting.

You will operate vacuum trucks and hydroblasting equipment, load gear, and travel for outages or shutdowns as needed.

A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass background and drug tests are required. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Must complete all pre and post-training, including safety, new hire, and regulatory.
  • Must complete all required safety-related training, including Confined Space, Hazardous Materials, and H2S.
  • One to two years of physical work in industrial or construction experience preferred; mechanical abilities helpful but not required.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a means of communication. Must pass drug test, background, and motor vehicle check.
  • Specific Licenses: Valid State-issued Driver’s License and ID required.

  • Travel is required, sometimes for long periods, to perform this work.

Purpose: Technician 1 is an entry level position. Technicians perform general labor activities associated with hydroblasting, vacuuming, and industrial cleaning services. Perform industrial hydro blasting work and associated labor in outages, shutdowns, turnarounds, and general maintenance scopes.

Essential Functions

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Performs basic wet and dry vacuum truck operation & functions.
  • Performs basic Hydroblasting Services, including Lance/Shotgun operation.
  • Load and unload equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Performs manual tasks and assists others as needed.
  • Clean vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
  • Ensures that assigned tasks are performed safely with the highest level of quality.
  • Reports potential issues or concerns to Crew Leader and/or Branch Manager.
  • May periodically use computers for training purposes.
  • Ensures that tasks are performed safely with the highest level of quality and integrity.
  • Adhere to company policies.
  • Wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE.) This includes but is not limited to multiple combinations of respirators, skin, face, hand, and foot protection.
  • Works when scheduled and complies with the company attendance policy.
  • Attends all safety and health training, as required.
  • Travel is required, sometimes for long periods, to perform this work.
Marginal Functions
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in other areas as needed, including but not limited to Shop, Parts, Inventory, and Municipal.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to use handheld radio/phone.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the crew and division personnel and negotiate with members of all backgrounds and personalities.
  • Must be able to operate a utility/pickup truck for hauling people and equipment.
  • Must possess a safety-first, positive attitude and work as a team.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English effectively.
  • Must be able to see within normal range with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be adaptable to change with short notice.
  • Must complete all pre and post-training, including safety, new hire, and regulatory.
  • Must be able to follow all safety policies and procedures while contributing to and maintaining a safe, clean and orderly work environment.
Qualifications

  • Must complete all required safety-related training, including, but not limited to, Confined Space, Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response, Aerial Lift Training, Lock Out Tag Out, Heat Stress, MSHA, Hazard Communications, and H2S.
  • One to two years of physical work in industrial or construction experience preferred; mechanical abilities helpful but not required.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a means of communication.Must be able to pass a drug test, background, and motor vehicle check.
  • Specific Licenses: Valid State-issued Driver’s License and ID required.

Work conditions: Industrial setting, outside environment, exposure to extreme temperatures and elements possible; noisy conditions, exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Physical Conditions: Must be physically capable of performing all duties and responsibilities. Ability to lift and carry 75-100 pounds. Extended periods of standing; walking; climbing; pushing/pulling; squatting/kneeling; substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to see within normal range with or without corrective lenses.
