Job Description
Position Overview

The Printmaking Technicianmaintains the printmaking studio at Sarah Lawrence College,ensuring all equipment is functional, supplies are available, andsafety protocols are enforced. This position provides technicalsupport for faculty and students across printmaking processes suchas intaglio, relief, and screen printing in an environment thatpractices newly developed nontoxic printmaking methodologies. TheTechnician manages the printmaking budget, oversees supplies, andserves as an on-site instructional resource for students exploringprintmaking techniques. The Technician models professionalpractices and contributes to a learning environment that emphasizestechnical skill and creative exploration.

Essential Duties Summary
Essential Functions
  • Prepares and maintains printmaking equipment and spaces,including intaglio presses, acid room, and exposure units, ensuringall machines and tools are in working order and available forclasses.
  • Manages the printmaking budget, including ordering andmaintaining stock of chemicals, paper, and tools, and submittingexpense reports for purchases.
  • Trains and supervises student assistants, delegating taskssuchas cleaning and equipment setup, and monitoring compliance withstudio policies.
  • Supports faculty with printmaking techniques and materialrecommendations, sharing expertise to enhance curriculargoals.
  • Ensures a safe environment by maintaining and regularlychecking safety equipment such as eyewash stations and chemicalstorage, in partnership with Campus Safety and in accordance withinstitutional and OSHA standards.
  • Consults with students on their projects, providing instructionon printmaking techniques, troubleshooting issues, and ensuringsafe handling of materials.
  • Monitors studio access, granting and overseeing swipe cardaccess each semester.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assists faculty and visiting artists with studio setup,material preparation and mixing chemical solutions as needed.
  • Maintains the organization of the storeroom, monitoringinventory levels and replenishing supplies. Prepare and mixchemicals and solutions.
  • Supports event preparation by coordinating with Visual Artsstaff to ensure the studio is visitor-ready.
  • Prepares the studio for annual or special maintenance tasks,such as painting walls and replacing glass slab countertops.
  • Handles mail, unpacking deliveries, and organizing supplies ona weekly basis.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or a related field.
  • A minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience in printmaking or studiomanagement.
  • Facility management skills and knowledge of printmakingequipment, including intaglio presses, letterpresses, and exposureunits.
  • Budget management experience and familiarity with AdobeCreativeCloud for screenprinting.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
  • Moderately sedentary, involving periods of sitting and computeruse.
  • Capacity to organize and synthesize detailed information.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and lifting during dailyoperations.
  • High levels of visual and manual coordination for operatingequipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a technician or studio manager in a collegesetting.
  • Carpentry skills and experience with minor repairs andmaintenance.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations in a studiosetting and experience implementing these standards.
