Job summary

Confluent Medical Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Technical Writer in Austin, TX to develop, revise, and maintain clear documentation for engineering, manufacturing, quality, and product lifecycle activities. You will draft work instructions, inspection procedures, ERP documentation, and risk records to support transfer and scale-up.

Ideal candidates have 3–5+ years of regulated technical writing, strong collaboration with engineers and operators, and experience with quality systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 3–5+ years of technical writing in manufacturing, medical devices, life sciences, or another regulated environment.
• Experience creating or maintaining controlled technical documentation (work instructions, SOPs, inspection procedures, specs, protocols, reports, risk docs).
• Ability to translate technical processes into clear, operator-ready instructions.
• Experience working with engineers, technicians, operators, and other technical SMEs.
• Familiarity with Quality Management Systems, document control, routing, and revision-controlled docs.
• Strong written, verbal, visual communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple documentation projects independently.
• Ability to gather inputs and organize drafts with engineers to finalize details.

Responsibilities

• Shadow engineers and technicians to capture processes and create clear work instructions.
• Develop docs from engineering inputs, drawings, specs, build notes, test data, ERP requirements, risk inputs.
• Review and standardize engineer-generated work instructions for production operators.
• Create, revise, and standardize inspection procedures, specifications, protocols, and reports.
• Support part creation and documentation in ERP by collecting info and coordinating reviews.
• Transform complex procedures into clear visual, step-by-step instructions with visuals.
• Apply plain-language and user-centered principles for varied English proficiency.
• Support manufacturing transfer from U.S. sites to the Costa Rica site, ensuring accuracy.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Training to verify accuracy.
