Job summary

Amentum is seeking a seasoned Technical Writer/Editor in Washington, DC to translate complex analytics into clear documentation across on‑prem and cloud environments.

You will develop user guides, executive communications, and implementation materials while maintaining style guides and information architecture under a TS clearance. Typical schedule is Monday–Friday onsite with fleks to reach 80 hours in two weeks.

Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience in technical/documentation roles.
  • Experience writing and editing technical content for information technology systems.
  • Experience with government management or DoD-style environments is a plus.
  • Develop and maintain documentation templates and style guides.
  • Translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Amentum is searching for a Top-Secret clearedTechnical Writer/Editorto join our team in Washington, DC. You will be working in an organization that’s mission is to accelerate operations through data and new analytical insights. The entire sectionleveragesagile and works to provide enhanced reporting and global searching capabilities tofacilitatetask management, cross-utilization, and address national intelligence priorities while protecting confidential data and sources.

The Technical Writer/Editor serves as a strategic communications and documentation expert within a team responsible for delivering complex data analytics solutions and enterprise applications across on-premises and cloud environments. The incumbent will develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, user guides, implementation materials, and executive-level communications to support application modernization efforts and technology initiatives.

Working in partnership with engineering teams, program stakeholders, and executive leadership, the Technical Writer/Editor will translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for both technical and non-technical audiences. The role also supports the creation of technical strategies, executive briefings, and technology roadmaps that drive informed decision-making and advance organizational goals.

Work Schedule:

Typically, Monday through Friday 8-hour days onsite. Flexibility within a 2-week pay period to reach 80 hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for researching, outlining, writing, and editing new and existing content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements.
  • Independently gathers information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
  • Works with development and support leads with identifying all documentation repositories, revising, editing, and determining the best solution for data compilation and centralized storage.
  • Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates that uphold organizational and legal standards, and allow for easy data migration.
  • Develops content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation.
  • Ensure that documents follow the style laid out in the organization’s style guide. May also be responsible for maintaining the style guide.
  • Suggest revisions to the style guide as appropriate.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • 7 years of experience collectively with the following:
    • Developing, editing, and producing technical and graphical documentation for information technology systems, to include SDDs
    • Experience working directly with government management to create training materials
    • Experience coordinating communications between various teams supporting applications user community
    • Planning the structure and organization of technical documentation to ensure it is logical, intuitive, and user-friendly
    • Creating outlines, templates, and style guides to maintain consistency and coherence across documentation sets
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, product managers, and quality assurance engineers, to ensure that documentation meets the needs of all stakeholders
    • Documented and demonstrated experience with troubleshooting and problem solving
    • Documented and demonstrated experience as an individual consultant or a team lead

Security Clearance Required: Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Social Science, Psychology or other related analytical, scientific, or technical discipline. In absence of degree, additional years of experience may be substituted for educational requirements

Minimum Years of Experience: Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications: Experience supporting Agile software development teams using Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, or other Agile methodologies. Experience supporting Federal Government, Department of Defense (DoD), or other regulated environments. Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC), DevSecOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience documenting technical roadmaps, modernization initiatives, cloud migration efforts, and enterprise architecture solutions. Experience supporting large-scale data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), or digital transformation programs.

Compensation Details:

US:$148,000 - $160,000
