Job summary

The Toro Company seeks a Technical Writer for our Perry, OK location to research, write, and produce instructional documentation for Toro products. You will create text, graphics, animations, and videos that clearly convey assembly and usage procedures while following established style guides.

You will collaborate with engineers, service teams, and legal to ensure accuracy and on-time delivery, with opportunities for growth and cross-functional exposure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical field or equivalent experience.
• 0-3 years (Writer I) or 3-6+ years (Writer II) in instructional documentation.
• XML experience and Arbortext Editor preferred.
• Technical illustration, animation, and video creation experience required.
• Proficiency with Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Creo Illustrate/Creo Parametric.
• MS Office suite proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Mechanical background; ability to read drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Create accurate instructional docs using text, graphics, line art, animations, and videos.
• Translate customer requirements into clear, concise documentation.
• Study storyboards for graphics; reuse text/graphics to reduce translation costs.
• Route workflow changes to editors and product teams for review and updates.
• Manage multi-project workload to meet production schedules.
• Apply metadata to graphics for searching and reuse.
• Author docs in compliance with Toro Style Guide for Instructional Documentation.
• Collaborate with SME, Engineering, Product Evaluation, Service, Legal, and Marketing.

We invite you to apply and join a team of highly skilled, and highly passionate people.**Technical Writer at Ditch Witch:**Research, write, and electronically produce instructional documentation such as operator’s manuals, installation instructions, and setup instructions. Create graphic line art, animations, and videos to enhance the overall communication effectiveness of the instructional documentation for Toro products.**What Will You Do?*** Create accurate, instructional documentation using text, graphic storyboards, line art, animations, and videos.* Define and translate customer requirements into clear concise instructional documentation.* Study and apply storyboard concepts for the creation of graphics.* Study and apply the concept of reuse for text and graphics to obtain reduced translation cost.* Create and route workflow requests for changes and new material to the editor, team lead, and product teams (engineering, test, legal, and service) for review and incorporate appropriate changes in the documentation.* Manage a multi-project workload and complete all projects on time to meet production schedule requirements.* Apply appropriate metadata to graphic communications for searching and reuse.* Author instructional documentation that complies with the *Toro Style Guide for Instructional Documentation*.* Create graphics that comply with the *Toro Style Guide for Graphic Documentation*.* Work closely with the team lead to ensure that all projects have the proper priorities and support to meet plant production and online requirements.* Communicate cross functionally with SME (subject matter experts), Engineering, Product Evaluation, Service, Legal, and Marketing.* Perform other duties as directed.***Note:** The responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the company.***What Do You Need?*** Work requires the level of educational development normally acquired by completing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Scientific and Technical Communications, English, or related engineering field or applicable experience as a writer/artist.* Technical Writer I, 0-3 plus years’ experience in instructional documentation.* Technical Writer II, 3-6 plus years’ experience in instructional documentation.* Experience with XML; database publishing preferred. Experience with Arbortext Editor or similar application is desirable.* Experience with technical illustration, animation, and video creation required. Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw preferred. Experience with Creo Illustrate and Creo Parametric CAD software preferred.* Proficiency with MS software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is desirable.* Mechanical background with the ability to understand and communicate technical and mechanical concepts is desirable. A reasonable estimate of the annual pay range is between $55,000-$75,000. Cash compensation is one piece of our competitive total rewards package.
