Job summary

HireArt is seeking an experienced Technical Writer for a contract role to research, develop, edit, and publish documentation supporting autonomous vehicle manufacturing and service processes. You will partner with engineers, technicians, quality teams, and program leaders to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable documentation.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in writing, editing, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably developing manufacturing procedures or service documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Proficiency with Oxygen XML Editor, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat
• Experience capturing, editing, and enhancing digital photographs for technical documentation
• Ability to work onsite across multiple locations to observe processes and collaborate with subject matter experts

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, project managers, and leadership to understand technical processes, requirements, and project priorities.
• Research, write, edit, and publish manufacturing procedures, service documentation, work instructions, and technical guides.
• Coordinate with technical program management and leadership to maintain consistent documentation standards, styles, and priorities.
• Develop documentation plans and deliver content in alignment with project schedules and milestones.
• Create digital documentation that incorporates technical images, photographs, and other visual content.
• Develop web-based training materials using Articulate.
• Observe manufacturing and service processes onsite to capture accurate procedures and workflow details.
• Partner with technicians and engineers to validate documentation and ensure technical accuracy.
• Gather and incorporate user feedback to improve documentation clarity and usability.
• Manage multiple documentation projects and drive assignments through completion.
• Work onsite across both Foster City and Hayward, with approximately 50% of the schedule spent at each location.

Expected compensation: 61.73 USD Per Hour

HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Technical Writer (Contract) to research, develop, edit, and publish documentation supporting autonomous vehicle manufacturing and service processes.

In this role, you’ll partner with engineers, technicians, quality teams, and program leaders to translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation that supports operational efficiency, product quality, and service readiness.

The ideal candidate is an experienced technical writer with a strong manufacturing background, excellent project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical subject matter experts across multiple locations.

As a Technical Writer (Contract), You'll

• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, project managers, and leadership to understand technical processes, requirements, and project priorities.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably developing manufacturing procedures or service documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Proficiency with Oxygen XML Editor, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat
• Experience capturing, editing, and enhancing digital photographs for technical documentation
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to work onsite across multiple locations to observe processes and collaborate with subject matter experts
• Ability to divide travel approximately equally between Foster City and Hayward

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing manufacturing documentation within the automotive, electric vehicle, or high-tech industries
• Familiarity with Dozuki, Articulate, Slack, CATIA, Jira, Confluence, document management systems, or PLM platforms
• Technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, automotive, or sensor hardware

Commitment:

This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
